I saw Dr. Castells, who is apparently at the forefront of masto research and she has decided to put me on the pretty typical regimen of hi1 and h2 blockera and gastrocrom. then my husband and i are going to go to canada to get some ketofin, since that is supposed to be the best drug aside from the gastrocrom ( Read more... )

Hi Brigid

I've been following for a few years.. I am 37 and have UP.. it showed up when i was 18.. was diagnosed in passing by a dermotologist looking at me for something else... haven't sought treatment further than an allergist. He basically said, after i explained what UP is, that it makes sense that all the histamines he treats in peoples noses, have gotten lost in the rest of my body. So aside from it being a cosmetic issue, he said i could go to a blood doctor, get a bone marrow test and see what happens. However, he said, if it's only cosmetic and doesn't bother you, you may be opening a pandora's box of things you don't want to be spending your life in the hospital trying to fix. So basically i haven't done anything further. i've always had a fussy stomach, it runs in my family big time.. who knew it is prolly this adding to it. I am curious at what point you decided to get on meds, and what all these meds really do? such as the H1 H2 Blockera, gastrocom, ketotifen, mast cell stabilizers?? Also, what's the total skin electron beam radiation treatment about? it sounds alot like radiation chemotherapy to me.. scary. So after all this time, how are you now and what's going on currently? Do you have it managed and a medication schedule streamlined to fix you up? Thanks so much for posting the journal. I am also living with UP and appreciate learning all i can. You've helped with that immensely! Best of Luck. Amy
