More work this evening. Another couple of things I'll note down for my reference...
Commit to doing it, even if you're doing it wrong. You can correct it later. The most important part is the commitment.
Count out loud and clear, with authority.
Every step is a two step movement.
Interestingly enough tonight I was noticing a timing issue which I could interpret the same as I would interpret timing in rapier fighting. In this case the idea of "stesso tempo" and "dui tempo."
We have also begun to deal more with the idea of Qi, which will be a very interesting issue. Neither of us is particularly interested in interpreting Qi in a 'mystical' sense, but also interestingly enough this system recognizes that Qi does not need to be interpreted 'mystically.'
Basically there is nothing in Qi that can't be explained by a solid understanding of body mechanics and physics and that is certainly the way this system approaches the issue. Tarik put it well when he pointed out that the problem is more likely found in the idea that "teachers" really couldn't teach because they didn't really understand what they were doing, they only did it. It worked, but the best they could do to communicate that knowledge was to try and talk about the feeling which would very quickly and very easily be misdirected to 'magical' thinking and terminology.
