l must say, I strongly disagree with anyone that thinks biting your nails is bad. Yes it may be a tad gross. However, I believe it is naturally the best thing you can do for your nails. Did you know some types of birds have to smash their Beaks for them to work properly. Beavers have to chew wood to file down their teeth. I feel the same goes toward human nails. I have been growing my nails for the past month now. They have developed a nice edge to them. The tips of each nail have grown out and i can now feel the underside of my nail from the tissue beneath it, if that makes any sense. I am growing my nails for different reasons, mainly cosmetic and as an indicator of time. I do feel that when I bite my nails they succeed far better than having them longer. Everyone says, "iew you bite your nails, there are so many germs and bacteria under your nails!" Well, yes thats true, they have a point. However, since these people usually don't bite their nails they do not know that there is actually no nail for anything to get trapped under. A nail bitter bites away most, if not all, of the excess nail that grows from their finger tips. I for one would have the nail so short that the edge was flush against my skin. The surface was just as flat and smooth with the bitten edges. There is physically no space for anything to collect. Now, Since I have been growing my nails, all i want to do is take a paper clip and scrap out the new space in between my nails. All the time i feel as if junk from the day is stuck in them. It is more of an irritant than anything. Now, whenever I do something with my fingers I have to watch out incase I smash an edge of my nail on something, or cut a piece of one, creating a sharp dangerous edge that i can scrape my eyes or skin with. If they get even longer, there is also the possibility that I could rip off an entire nail. Typing has become different, not much, but still different. I have to angle differently. I truly feel that biting your nails is an example of human adaptation. It offers more maneuverability, dexterity and strength. There are no places for dirt. Not to mention! When I scratch an itch with longer nails, i usually get a short rash, or irritate the skin, which is probably from the germs I have now caught under my nails. With short nails, this would not be a problem at all. I would also learn how to tolerate itches, which come in very handy during yoga or in class when your upper ass itches or your foot. Case and point, just because the majority of people in the world have longer nails, which is probably because our chauvinist male race expects woman to look like objects of perfection and fantasy, which has caused the blending of proper nail etiquette to transcend into the male world, we shouldn't be quick to judge someone who is biting their nails. After all the longer nailed people probably pick their noses and better than anyone else seeing as they have to right tools to do it! lol
