Hey Look! Recs!

Dec 29, 2010 13:27

For the record: I really love the new Kudos function on AO3. Like, a lot. I've been slowly and methodically (and alphabetically) working my way through Yuletide, and it's nice to have a middle-ground between dithering over a comment for an hour because it triggers my social anxiety fail, and feeling guilty because I didn't leave any feedback on a story that I enjoyed. And I have enjoyed a lot of these stories! In fact, I think this is due time for a brief rec list. (This is in no way comprehensive, just a list of stories I liked or that pushed my buttons. Also I've only gotten through S so far.)

Title: The Secret Between The Two of Them
Fandom: Sunao ni Narenakute
Notes: Linda deserves a better ending than was given to him by the show. This is a great character moment for him and Peach both.

Title: Ply, Skein, and Twist
Fandom: Spindle's End
Notes: A sort of long, sweet epilogue to the book. With babies, and baby magic, and Peony's gay little brother.

Title: Here at long last is my darkness
Fandom: Slender Man Mythos
Notes: Mimics the multimedia elements of the Slender Man mythos in fic form. Genuinely creepy. Also, SLENDER MAN FIC.

Title: Six Characters In Search of a Fandom
Fandom: Six Characters In Search Of An Author
Notes: Yuletide meta meets an absurdist Pirendello play. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE.

Title:Photographic Evidence
Fandom: Lord Peter Wimsey
Notes: My dear
colourofsaying got several lovely Sayers fics this year based on a prompt based on a conversation we had a while back about why Peter/Parker/Bunter would be awesome. This one is hurty, but brilliant.

Title:Tap=Dancing In A Minefield
Fandom: Modern Family
Notes: Alex has an identity crisis. The family...helps, for a given value of helping. Nails the voices perfectly.

Title:the true meaning of friendship (and zombies)
Fandom: In Plain Sight
Notes: I love this show because they film it here and I recognize everything, and because it's really clever and fun. Just like this story.

Title:If you don't ask, you don't get
Fandom: FAKE
Notes: Dee has issues with asking for what he wants. Ryo does not have issues with giving it to him. Hot, well-written, Ryo-topping porn, all a rarity in FAKE fandom.

Title:Bonding For Rivals
Fandom: Football RPF
Notes: Hatesex between Manuel Neuer and Rene Adler. Yay Germans!

Title: The Start of A Beautiful Something
Fandom: Futurama
Notes: Fry/Leela/Bender may be my OTP now. This is hilarious and spot-on for the voices.

Title: A Study in Amber
Fandom: Echo Bazaar
Notes: The Player investigates some mysterious deaths and the arrest of a Rubbery Man. Long, plotty case-fic of a story with all the atmosphere and ambiguous sexuality of the Neath. LOVE.

Title: From Degas To Vegas
Fandom: Despicable Me
Notes: Gru tries to retire, while the girls plot a heist. Oh my god this is darling.

Title: Taking The Trouble To Practice
Fandom: Demon's Lexicon
Notes: Jamie practices his ability to be a dom on Nick. Porn ensues. Awesome.

Title: No Second Coming
Fandom: Dark Is Rising
Notes: Some years after SoTT, the Dark is rising. Again. OH MY GOD. READ THIS RIGHT NOW. This is the ending the last book should have had. Absolutely wonderful.

Title: Once A Goddess
Fandom: Chrestomanci Series
Notes: Millie, being awesome, in many different ways. Interesting and plausible character piece.

Title:Snapshots
Fandom: Being Human
Notes: Awwwww. This isn't quite a threesome, but it isn't not. I want to hug them all.

Title: The Things Friends Do or Four Times Jaime, Paco, and Brenda Helped Each Other Out
Fandom: Blue Beetle
Notes: ILU PACO. Oh, who am I am kidding, I love all of them. With bonus Milagro.

Title: The Trouble With Totems
Fandom: Brother Bear
Notes: a coming of age for Sitka, years before the movie.

Title: (Just Like) Starting Over
Fandom: Star Trek RPF
Notes: Hilarious and awesome Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto (and Leonard Nimoy/William Shatner, but I'm ignoring that for the SAKE OF MY BRAIN)

Title: The Art of Courtly Love
Fandom: Arthurian Romance
Notes: It's not Yuletide without an Arthurian threesome, right? Right. Also, name-dropping Capellanus ftw.

And now I'm back off to the Land of No Internet But Many Horses, and I will return a better, wiser person who has seen Deathly Hallows in the theater finally.
