Trains still aren't running, it snowed all weekend, there is no gas or kerosene to be had around Morioka, thousands are still living in school gyms without food, heat or running water, and there may or may not be a catastrophic meltdown in Fukushima. Despite all that, I'm at school, re-retesting the students who keep failing their finals.
We are getting by pretty well. We can't drive anywhere, but there are well-stocked grocery stores within walking or biking distance. We rode the bus into town yesterday because we were tired of being cooped up. Gene had never ridden on the bus before, and he was enjoying it right up until he fell asleep. I will have to remember that for the next time he refuses to settle down and go to bed at night.
A special shout-out to my friend Jonathan Levine-Ogura, who is doing far more than I am to aid relief efforts.
