A Beautiful Shadow
Author: anyothergirl415
Rating: R ish
Summary: Levi gets a wrong call one night that leads to worlds more.
Warnings: Sort of angsty, fluffy and somewhat wonderful I guess.
Disclaimer: I don't know Orlando Bloom, I just have him chained to my bed. *coughs* *snorts* NOT.

A cricket chirped loud enough for her to be distracted from her work. Her fingers paused over well worn keys, still so her ears could locate and destroy the obnoxious insect. A sigh escaped her cherry chap stick flavored lips as the sound stopped and her mind was once more allowed to focus on the task at hand.

Which was currently how to get Rebecca to forgive Damien his act of selfishness then proceed to steamy sex in a variety of locations. Sometimes writing romance novels could be dull, seeing how they were mainly the same plot with simply different circumstances and names.

“I won’t be fooled by your unappealing charm,” Levi read aloud, taking on the air and dignity she imagined her Rebecca proudly practiced. “You are the most disgusting creature Damien Blaine and…”

Here she trailed off, lost for the completion of the sentence. Bitter - she sighed and turned to look at her fat black cat that lay not to far from her.

“It sucks, doesn’t it Moscow?” Levi raised an eyebrow at the creature, calling it by name to get its attention.

But Moscow the fat black cat only opened one eye - looking very uninterested in anything she had to say - then went right back to sleeping.

Levi sighed - mumbling a “thought so” and was about to hit the delete button when a chat window showed up on her screen. Making her smile gratefully to see best friend - Scout’s - screen name.

Silentmoments6: sup chick?!?

Writergal415: nm, u?

Levi knew their conversation would deal mainly with the same three topics - as it often did. One -

Orlando Bloom. 2 - Fan Fiction and 3 - Sex.

These three things were the biggest connections the girls had. Levi’s life consisted of the three, that and her undying passion for writing. The passion which has sparked her career and here she was, a famous romance author with an indescribable obsession with Orlando Bloom and sex.

After awhile the topic switched between the two girls from Orlando Bloom’s latest photo shoots to the recent troubles involving Rebecca and Damien.

Just as the idea of exactly how the world was going to work out between the two ‘star crossed lovers’ her cell phone rang. Typing a quick ‘brb’ she sighed and rolled her chair over to the contraption, blinking at the unfamiliar number.  “Hello?”

“Er… Lij?” A British male voice sounded confused on the line.

Levi smiled because it somehow always amused her when people had the wrong number and were thoroughly confused as to how they dialed wrong. “No… Levi. But close, minus the female part. I’m sorry, you have the wrong number.”

A warm tingle was sent through her body at the laugh that followed, relief swimming through her at the delicious noise. “Oh… that makes sense. I was beginning to worry… Lij never would allow a girl to answer his cell.”

She laughed in return and found a rush of her natural flirty nature burst forth as it often did when she came in contact with anything human. “Well how do know I don’t have your little friend Lij tied to a bed?”

Another round of laughter sent heat soaring overwhelming through Levi’s slender body. “Well… if that’s the case, I say, go Lij!”

She laughed and felt some strange spark of connection that was simply indescribable. “Well I’m not sure what that says about him or you for that matter…”

“Oh great, I’m reveling a secret part of my kinky side to a complete stranger. I must apologize… you surly think me horrid.” His smooth British accent washed over her every nerve and she shivered with the feel of it.

“Well as I said, my name is Levi… so I’m not too much of stranger. And obviously I’m female and American, so look at that. You know three things about me!” She giggled, loving when he laughed in return.

“Lucky me!” He laughed and Levi heard the squeak of a chair as the man obviously sat back. “So… my name is Orl… Orion. My name is Orion.”

“Orl… Orion?” She giggled, shifting in her own chair to get comfortable, Rebecca and Damien obviously forgotten in the heat of the moment. As well as Scout.

He laughed and she could hear the shuffle of his clothes on the line as he adjusted. “You made me nervous, fidgeting and such… wanted to be all smooth but you know… I never get what a want.”

“Boo hoo,” Levi teased, giggling at his indigent scoff. “Life seems so rough for you Mister. Orion… speaking of which, what type of name is that?” She laughed playfully, enjoying his following scoff and so-large-she-could-feel-it eye roll.

“It’s a name, it’s mine and I’m… particularly fond of it!” He defended. “Besides, you are the one named after a pair of jeans… so who are you to judge?”

Levi rolled her eyes, giggling softly. “Oh honestly, that was the lamest come back I’ve ever heard.”

“Well er… I… that’s not fair,” he defended pitifully.

And their conversation seemed to carry on in a similar fashion. Levi found herself standing and walking around her apartment, describing the things on her walls to the man as she went along. And he listened, even asking questions about their particular placement. He laughed at her casual mention of a few Orlando Bloom posters. The way she simply said, “And there’s a poster of Orlando Bloom… or a few… don’t know how those got there.”

In turn, he described his room, making her laugh with the statement that guys normally were never clean animals but he didn’t live in his house long enough to actually make it dirty. Yet he had two different homes so together they likely formed one type of mess typical of men.

“So… you travel a lot for work?” Levi asked, noticing her computer flashing - meaning Scout had IM’d her.

As he responded - explaining he was a business man - Levi sat in the computer chair and pulled up the box, grinning at the obvious impatient ramblings of her best friend. Quietly, she hit the keys to type up her reply.

Writergal415: I’m gonna go… my mom is on the phone. We’ll chat later okay?

Levi didn’t wait for her response but signed off quickly, saving her book and spinning in her chair to answer Orion’s question. “I’m a writer. Romance novels are my specialty… sort of…”

He laughed and Levi listened to him groan softly as the chair creaked. Strangely enough to her, she could almost see him standing from the old chair and stretching gently.

“Romance novels, eh?” Orion laughed, the phone catching a brief snatch of static as he obviously moved into a different room of his loft.

“Yup,” Levi nodded. “So… are you calling from the UK?”

“Nope, LA,” Orion laughed more. “Otherwise our phone bills would be enormous right?”

“Gigantic,” Levi agreed, not mentioning that she was in LA herself.

Her eyes traveled to the clock, noticing the hour turning to 10 and she had to blink a few times to really register it. Register the fact that her phone had rang at 8 o’clock. “Dear lord, we’ve been on the phone for almost 2 hours,” Orion said, as if reading her mind.

She laughed and plopped onto her bed. “And I really need to get this chapter finished so I can send part of the book into my editor and she can get cracking. So I should probably go…”

There was a sigh on the other line and Levi felt somewhat the same. She hardly wanted to hang up the phone; she was addicted to the sound of this man’s voice already. It was most likely because he was British but she couldn’t be sure.

“May I accidentally dial your number again sometime?” He asked after a pause, lost in his own thoughts that Levi had ultimately been so tangled in.

Levi beamed happily and felt a blush tinge her cheeks. “Um… yeah… that would be alright.”

“Good,” she could practically feel his smile through the phone. It made her heart race just a little more then what was natural.

“I guess…” she began, not wanting to be the one who ended this… thing… that felt somehow so perfect.

“I’ll talk to you later Levi,” he whispered, almost dragging the conversation out though in the next moment she whispered goodbye and the line disconnected.

Levi stared at the mobile in her hand, hitting the end button in a not quite there haze. She smiled softly as she flipped to recent received calls and saved the number as Orion in her phone book. She had the distinct feeling that every time she saw that name appear on her caller ID things were going to look just a little bit brighter.

With a content sigh she turned to her computer and opened her word document, staring at the world of Rebecca and Damien that she had worked so hard to create. Blinking softly, she glanced over at the still sleeping Moscow then reached out and opened a new word document.

Rebecca and Damien were just going to have to be put on hold right now as she started the beginnings of a story where the main character was simply perfect but unreachable. Only because her genuine - and brand new - Hillary couldn’t have feelings for a complete stranger could she?
