Here in Berkshire, we got a quite a bit of snowfall yesterday evening. I left for work at 10pm, after about 6 inches had fallen. The roads had not yet been plowed. Fortunately, my mother let me take her car(2001 Subaru Legacy) to work. Gotta love All-Wheel-Drive. :-) I'd have to guess that 6 inches is the upper limit for that particular vehicle as ground clearance was becoming an issue. Within a quarter mile of my house, I passed by a Ford Bronco(full size, OJ Simpson style) that was stuck in the ditch on the side of the road. I thought to myself, "that's not an encouraging sign...". Half a mile or so later, I came across a Chevy pickup(with a 3" body lift and what looked like 33" tires [ProComp M/T, if I'm not mistaken]) in the ditch on the side of the road. I pressed on, despite seeing the two 4x4's off the road and stuck. Things got easier once I reached the state-maintained roads as those had been plowed. Even still, it was a pretty scary ride... no way my Insight would have gotten me to work given the low clearance. Since we're talking about roads, I'd like to mention East Maine Rd. that runs from Newark Valley to the outside of Johnson City; for some reason, cars crash there quite often. I saw an Oldsmobile all smashed up on my way home from work this morning. Since I moved to this neck of the woods in October, I've seen 4 cars wrecked on East Maine Road. Seeing cars wrecked isn't all that unusual, but there was something strange about all of these single-car accidents- all of the cars/trucks were upside down! Granted, 2 of the 4 were Ford Explorers... but I wouldn't have expected to see the early 90's model Oldsmobile Cutlass I saw today end up on its roof. There must be something wierd going on there... maybe the road is haunted or something. I can't think of any good explanation for why every car that crashes there ends up upside-down.
Ants are the coolest creatures on the planet. Amy got me an ant farm a while back and the live ants arrived the day before yesterday... Once they got over the 'we're cold and oxygen starved so we'll play dead' stage, they've been quite busy making tunnels in their new home. They are quite fascinating to watch. I've been told that talking about my ants is boring... but they're just so damn awesome!
Time for bed... I bid thee goodnight!
