HEAVY EQUIPMENT COMPANY TESTS LONG TERM EFFECTS OF BIODIESEL
AGCO, a manufacturer of tractors and other farm implements, has recently begun a program of testing for the alternative fuel called Biodiesel, which can be derived from soybeans or even from used fryer grease. Unlike petroleum-based Diesel fuel, Biodiesel is a renewable fuel. In addition, Biodiesel burns cleaner than conventional Diesel fuel.
Though most Diesel engines aren’t terribly fussy about the fuel used in them(most will run on Kerosene, home heating oil, and even animal fats from deep fryers), the long term effects of using alternatives to petroleum-based Diesel are still in question. To answer some of these questions and make certain that Biodiesel is safe for their equipment, AGCO researchers in South America and Europe are studying the alternative fuel’s impact on reliability, efficiency, and overall utility as compared to conventional Diesel fuel.
This testing represents a huge milestone for proponents of alternative fuels; corporate support is essential and the efforts of AGCO represent a big step in the right direction.
