For you folks that are going to NYIRP Tomorrow- you'd better have a damn good time or there will be hell to pay! Seriously, you guys have fun. Keep in mind that anyone can rent the track(when it's not being used for something else) for $500. A Proxima fun day, anyone? We'd have to have our own people to run the tree and timing equipment unless we wanted to pay the regular track employees to do it. Then again- why bother with this straight line dragstrip stuff when we could also rent the Laguna Seca road course? Granted, Laguna Seca is a bit more pricey($6,000/day, January to April) and it's in California, but that would be one hell of a good time. Best of all, if you lose control of your car, you'll slide into relatively harmless piles of kitty litter(certainly more benign than concrete walls, anyway). That's not to say that there are no retaining walls at Laguna Seca, but you'll hit the kitty litter before the wall on any part of the track where you're likely to lose it. :-) So... who's up for some track rentals? See nyirp.com and laguna-seca.com for details.
