9/11: Nine Years Later

Sep 11, 2010 18:19

Last night, my roomies wanted to go to this party, but I decided to head back home for the weekend.

September 11, 2001. My dad, who is a flight attendant, was assigned to United Flight 93. However, he caught the flu and had to call in. His friend decided to take his trip, so she could be home with her six month old baby two days sooner.

I was waiting for the bus, when I saw the WTC in flames. Shortly after I had to go, i saw the second plane hit. When I arrived at school (i was in seventh grade at the time), I told my teacher and we watched the news all day. All I could think of was my dad.

Around 12pm, we saw the headline of the United Airline crash in a field in Pa. Everyone in my homeroom looked at me. They knew my Dad was a FA. 10 minutes later, the secretary from the front office came to the room and ask me to come with her to the office.

I was freaking out, but she said my mother is here to pick me up and my dad is fine. I saw my mom and she was on the phone with my dad. She told me that he called in that morning. We were happy.

We were lucky.

Today was like any other day when everyone was home. We didn't speak of 9/11 in our house. It was a sensitive topic, because it was hard on my dad. And it was difficult for him to move on from it. We avoid shows on television dedicated to 9/11.

But, he does mention it from time to time. It's just on this day, no one says a thing.

Anyways, I am surprised i haven't wrote a post on this. But, on my train ride home, i decided to make one on my phone.

I am very grateful and fortunate my dad came home. I don't know what kind of person i would of been if he didn't returned.

Thank you, God. Thank you.

Condolences and prayers to those who were greatly affected by this tragedy.
