Early morning bike ride in Macau

Mar 19, 2007 12:40

Riding during the day is quite another experience. I left my apartment at 7:30am on Sunday and rode to the Hac Sa beach again. There was hardly anyone at the beach and all you hear is the sound of waves trying ceaselessly to engulf the shoreline. After that, I rode up to the Ma Zhou Statue (or Estatua da Deusa "A-Ma" in Portuguese) on the highest point of Macau. It was probably the most brutal climb I've ever attempted, and the fact that my bike don't have gears didn't help. I had to walk part of the way up. Maybe one day I'll be able to tackle the hill in its entirety. The sky was overcast and gave the whole ride a gloomy feel, but there's certain charm in a gloomy early morning on top of a hill similiar to the aesthetic appeal of black and white photographs.

This would make the most epic skate spot ever. I don't know if skating on the Ma Zhou Goddess is supposed to bring bad luck though.

The descent after the brutal climb from hell.

I want to discover my own Ultimate Asian Power too.

Macau is the only place on Earth where you'll see bilingual signs in Chinese and Portuguese

Crossing the bridge illegally again. The side wind was pretty strong this time and I totally felt myself being sucked into huge buses zooming past me.
