I'm listening to Northern Lights with Andrea Ratuski on CBC Radio 1 at 12:47am. I rarely listen to classical music, but it feels *right* when it's on the radio. On CBC.
One summer my brother and sister and I, we were maybe 7, 9, 11, and we drove from my grandparents' place in Calgary, through Eastend SK (to see a dinosaur dig!), back home to Winnipeg after my parents had left us there earlier so they could get to work after their two weeks of holidays were up. We drove in a mid-90s red Pontiac, the five of us, across the prairies listening to CBC Radio 2. Classics and Beyond indeed. Always interspersed with the news, with the weather.
There's few things more Canadian than turning the dial trying to pick up the closest CBC signal as you move out of one tower's range and into another's.
After I turn the computer off and hit the sheets, I'm going to read a couple of Stuart McLean's stories about Dave and Morley. I feel Canadian, I feel CBC-ness. It's one of my favourite feelings.
