• Life isn't my thing. It's... too much of a drama lama. It's the exact opposite of the calmness that is The Mentalist, and really not something I need before going to bed. Or need at all

Also, I've noticed this dropping dubbing quality in German dubs for a few years now. I think it has to do with several things. One is the increasing frequency and speed with which series and movies are brought over to be translated and dubbed-this leads to a painful shortage of competent translators and good voice actors. I mean, if you (general you) compare 80s and 90s series that were brought over, most of them had excellent translations with very few errors, and equally excellent voice acting.

Another thing is what I've been noticing in my own field, being an English student-the dropping quality of student ability. Most people cannot comprehend sarcasm, translate jokes, wordplay and humor go over their head, their level of discourse and expression can sometimes only be described as poor. If you ask them whether they regularly write, read or listen to and speak in English, you almost always hear, "Um... noooo?" and yet they want to be teachers and translators.

Adding these two things makes for horrible translations. The SPN dub, for example, was downright painful, and I don't even care about SPN. I doubt they're going to cut out the homo in Torchwood, though, if they're going to show the lesbians. I think the reason behind putting lesbian shenanigans in the trailer is to attract the dumb fanboys who'd have kneejerk reactions of homophobia. Germany's produced some pretty good and sensitive films about gays over the last ten-twenty years, so I really don't think they'd cut that aspect of the series. I mean, they're airing Queer as Folk. XD
