I finished it: My 100% Paragon Shep managed to talk TIM into ending his own life (I really liked that parallel to Saren), and after 10 agonizing minutes chose the red option. So, the relays, Geth, Reapers and EDI are dead, what's left of Earth is safe, and all her allies are stranded there (to starve, pretty much). The Normandy crashlands on a planet somewhere, but hey, at least her boyfriend survived. (Even so I have noooo idea how Kaidan survived that death beam.)
He'll be really sad to hear, though, that Shep didn't make it ):
(I think it's pretty much impossible to get the Shep survives ending without any multiplayer at all. I've did every mission I could and my EMS is only at 3.5k, and for that I'd need 4k. So close, and yet so far away ;_;)
Hurrah! I talked him down too, which really was an awesome parallel.
I refused to destroy the Geth, and I thought the synthesis ending was really creepy-sounding (like it would kill everyone and make cyborgs out of them or something.) So I picked Control.
I was really, really disappointed in all the endings though.
Yeah, you need to have a perfect 'Destroy' ending and I think you do need the multiplayer to get a mini-flash of Shepard taking a breath. Though I'm told it's still pretty ambiguous. Like I said the other day, at that level all the endings are available without multiplayer. The only difference is how much damage you do, to yourself and the universe. I think they were cruel to lie about whether we could get everything without it though.
It took me 10 minutes longer to finish the last 15 minutes, because after the God Child was done talking, I was sitting there, waiting patiently for the fourth "lol, fuck you, I'm Commander Shepard, I do what I want what's right!" option. Which didn't come. And then I checked the interent, because that couldn't be it, right? Maybe I had to turn around for the other option to trigger? Sadly, even the internets couldn't safe this :/ (Also, that "GO BUY DLC, THXBAI" message at the end? Wow. Just. Wow.)
All I've been doing since I finished it on Saturday was read other fan reactions; the lists/videos of all the things wrong with the ending, the retake movement, etc.
And wonder if I will ever be able to play Mass Effect again, because seriously. What's th epoint? (As always, tumblr has a post for my emotions.) What are you feelings regarding ME after this?
I'll probably play the multiplayer on Friday+Saturday with the free two day gold pass that came with the Collector's edition, just so that all the extra content finally unlocks. edit:
( ... )
Yeah, I made a post about it too, and then I went around reading other reactions and realised I was in no way alone in my disappointment. Because - yeah - talk about an ending where we had no agency at all.
Also, that "GO BUY DLC, THXBAI" message at the end? Wow. Just. Wow.
I forgot to mention that but - seriously - after the ending that felt like such a slap in the face. And that Tumblr post is me, absolutely me. I had every intention of playing the game with all my characters. But now I just don't want to be around any of the games, for a while.
I have no interest at all in the multiplayer. Even though the idea of playing a Salarian, or a Turian, or a Drell is kind of awesome I just have no interest at all in multiplayer games and I resent how hard they pushed it :(
And the way Bioware talks about the ending, and our reaction... it makes me feel even worse about it. These are the people I adored for brinign me this wonderful universe, these fantastic characters? These are the people I was happy to give my money to?
Exactly! Why should we want to, knowing that everyone will die outright or starve to death? Garrus, Tali and Wrex will never get to rebuild their homeworlds! Fuck.
Yeah, same here. Apparently unlocking stuff without paying extra also sucks a lot, so. I don't get it. It costs 50% of your military strengh, wth! Some claim that it's possible to get the "best" ending even withotu any multiplayer, but... My para!Shep had all the fleets, and did all quests and still fell short?
I'm going to play it for a bit, probably, because I finally want to be able to dl my Soundtrack and then I'll forget about it.

Some people on Kotaku were trying to do it, I think. They had absolutely everything, made all the right conversation decisions. Screwed over everyone to get as many assets as possible and they still didn't get the 'Shepard lives' ending :\
Playing Castlevania now, my space love needs to sit in its room and listen to sad music for a while.
Ahaha, that kind of makes me feel better? Gotta love that Bioware outright lied about something yet again.
I actually just started another Mass Effect 3 playthrough. I think watching all the amazing fanworks helped a lot, and then I finished my Renegade!Shep ME2 playthrough this weekend, and aaah it was just so much fun. (I love doing Warpexplosions. Love, love, love.) I won't play all the way to the ending (maybe I'll let Marauder Shields off my Shep, like so many others, lol), but I think my other Sheps deserve to get together with their loved ones as well /horrible sap
I probably should start looking around for another good gaming series as well, though orz.
