Camp's over

Jul 30, 2004 10:46

I haven't updated in like a month and a half so I guess now's a good time. June wasn't any worse than life usually is, until camp started. Staff week was kinda sucky. I didn't mind the manual labor, but whenever we had free time and were socializing and such, I would get really jealous because all of the girls liked my friends and not me. It was a bit sucky. I got first aid training, and now I'm certified by the Red Cross to do first aid and CPR. Rumors started that week about my friend Tim cheating on his gf. I hate gossip. At the end of the week there was a dance party at the memory lodge, and i made a fool of myself (like i always do when i dance). On the weekend then was a party at mattt's house, which i attended on friday and missed on saturday (as i had to wake up early on sunday). Friday was pretty fun, we got to swim in his pool and stuff. From what i've been told about saturday, missing it was the worst mistake of my life. From what I've been told, pretty much every girl from camp (most of which are quite good looking) took off their tops and played volleyball in the pool. Hearing about that royally fucked up my mood for a good 4 or 5 days. Just thinking about it makes me feel more depressed. First week of boys camp I had tent 6, which is for those of you not in the know, the tent for 10 and 11 year olds. The list of kids I had goes as follows: Jamison Theim, Jarret Theim, Anthony Trombley, Gordon Kwei, and the insufferable shithead Nick Dahl. Gordon is apparently the best camper at Wiyaka in the last few years. Nick is apparently the worst. Nick snuck out of his bunk all the time, he swore, he started fights, he stole the Ymca flag, and he got into some shit with a knife. He thought he was a tough little kid, and he was fairly tough, but most of it was just talk. I wanted to strangle him by tuesday. We had a "secret buddy" thing that we did each week, where we would make presents for a person and get presents from someone else. I would always just make things like zipper gimp and pony bead bracelets, except this time at the end of the week when i revealed my identity to my seret buddy, i gave him a poem that i found in this humorous quotations book i had from the library. It was about hangovers, and he wasnt able to start working until monday morning because he was plagued by a hanover on sunday. Everyone thought it was funny. My secret buddy gave me a pony bead bracelet and a note talking about how i needed some free time and a break from one of my campers *cough*nickdahl*cough*. That weekend i went home and played some dnd with jared and just basked in civilization for a few hours before i had to go back to the wilds of being a single parent of 7 for a week. The second week I had a full tent, 7 kids. I got tent 1 this time, which is slightly younger than tent 6. The way the tents go in order of age is 5 4 3 2 1 6 7 8 9 10 11 s&l. Anthony Trombley (again), DJ Frigon (pronounced free-gone, not friggin apparently) Nathan Bones (new kid, fine for a few days, bad on thursday and friday) Mike Williams (homesick crybaby that never wanted to do anything but kickball. Only 10-year old that I have seen that can hit a home run in kickball.) Demitri Guilmette (spoiled brat that always wanted candy) Zach Jackson (extreme ADHD, loved bugs and showing me bugs. I hate bugs, especially when people show me them.) and of course, Ryan Manning aka Mini-Me (complete jackass, started 1 fight a day AT LEAST). Week 2 was worse than week one, as I had to break up more fights in a day than I had through the entirety of week 1. If minime was part of a disputed decision in the 4-square court, he started a fight. If he though anthony was looking at him funny, he got in a fight. If he was being good and someone else wasnt and i didnt see it for some reason, he got in a fight. I'm lucky that I have a longer reach than any of the kids in my tent, as i had to physically hold people back all the time. It got a little better when i found out that i was helping run the Mt. Monadnock hike that week. I love climbing monadnock. It was pretty sunny when we started, and i didnt bring a jacket as i have never needed one while climbing. As we got higher, it started to lightly rain. Not full on downpour, but enough to turn the air into a fine mist. You couldnt see more than 15 or 20 feet ahead of you unless you were under the trees, and when you were outside the trees, there was a fairly strong wind blowing you around. Now this would have been fine, but more than half of our group was under 12, and i had on a t-shirt. I had on long pants, but by the time we got up to the top, i was soaked to the bone and i could barely feel my fingers. We usually eat lunch at the top, but since there was so much wind and rain, we decided to head down a little further before we ate. We walked down about a half hour from the top and found a relativly dry and flat spot to eat on. We sat for about a half our to eat and let our food digest (as to not get cramps) and headed back down. We got to the bottom and drove back to camp, some of us sleeping in the car, some of us talking. The rest of the week went by and I invited cory and niles from camp to sleep at my house. We came to my house, went online, went to wal-mart, played a roleplaying game that cory's friend invented called 30ss. Eventually we went to mattt's house and hung out there. While there, I met a girl named Aowyn (her sister's name is Arwen. Her parents like lord of the rings.). She has views on a whole bunch of things tha are very similar to mine. She is apparently the top of the athol 2006 class. Shes wicked smart, fairly hot, and wicked cool. Cory, niles and I ended up sleeping at mattt's house. Third week at camp was by far the worst. I had tent 5. For those of you that don't know, tent 5 is the 8-year olds. Fie on tent 5. Thankfully i didnt have a full tent. I had Bradley Pudsey (several mental disorders), Travis Heath, Andre Suzor (occasionally dissagreeable, but usually good), Noah Radisic (very loud and obnoxious) and Jake (the Pissmaster). Every night, Jake would piss his bunk, every morning I would wake up to the smell of fresh urine, and every day I would have to utilize the Febreeze and Lysol that I was thankfully provided with by the camp to de-funkitize Jake's bunk. Most days during tent time (when the tent gets together and does stuff together) we would go a little bit into the woods and build a fort on the side of a rock. By the end of the week I was at my wit's end and waiting for the end. Aowyn came to campfire that night. The next day i came home and played video games. Monday i started working at the library again, but I havent been able to get as many hours as usual because other people have been using the dolphin and filling it up, so I can only get in a hour or 2 a day. Tonight I'm going to try and get up to campfire and see my friends at girls camp. its about 1:00 right now, so their probably starting the last rest hour of week 1. I probably wont update for another few weeks, so I'll talk to you then!

For those of you who forget, at the end of each post I put the line of a song, and I try to see who can guess what the song is and who wrote it. Try with this line:
Can you practice what you preach, and will you turn the other cheek?
