ok a good overview of my experience w/the musical
INTROOOOO
ok tryouts started well, i sang morning glow, lah tidah, only four guys trying out... so i kinew i would get a big part... 8 weeks to do a play whose script wasn't even finished,, i'm ready
well later at the practices, i found out the girls were awesome... the guys, generally weren't that bad..., one guy that tried out couldn't sing for living shit, he sucked major balls... he wasn't really a good actor either, you know one of those ones who are charasmatic, then automatically think they're actors... jeez i hate those people... well yes anyhoo... at the first practice throughout the first three of eight weeks of rehearsal, we didn't have the scripts, and we didn't know what our parts were... they told us when we did choreography, to act everything out... ironic eh? well the guy that can't sign john, is one of those guys that, first you just don't like. he's a showoff, thinks he's all cool, quite annoying, and for the choral parts, you just don't want to stand next to him, yes he sings that bad. my friend tim, whos mormon and prob my best friend here, and i alternated spots each practise... this other guy kevin, he was the most amazing singer, awesome, you would drop dead, prob the best bass i've heard...
well, we finally got the scripts, finally got our parts. I got the second largest male part, a guy called Gustav Aurillious Maximus III, big name, must reflect something. :D but anyway john the annoying, not to mention fat kid, got the lead... i think the director wasn't very serious, it sorta screwed a lot of the music thing too, since he is the absolute worst singer lol... i don't think the director and choir teacher had much communication... anyhoo, things started to look bad... the second week before opening, my friend tim's grandmother died. he had to leave for a week to go to the funeral... he was never real too good w/his lines, he was mainly a good singer, but he was a pretty good actor too, not the best... but anyhoo, he missed like a week of blocking and that shit... it was quite hell... he came back nearly not knowing anything... in addition, he had been planning to see his bro on his mission in the Phillippines for two years, it happened to land on the opening weekend. So they m oved the play back and it interfered w/something that i did earlier something awesome and kickass that only happens like once in a few years, the Doha Debates... which i had told my teachers i would go... in turn i couldn't go to somehting that was aired on BB frekin C!!!
THE BODY
soon, the opening day came upon us and boom. we haven't even ran it once non-stop... one song we just put the choreography on to it the day before... w00t was it fun, first night was ok... like i said to you b4 annabelle i did the magic in the theatre thing, noone took me seriously... i was pretty pissed they did it like a game... idk about anything really... i made a few mistakes, not too many, it was pretty good considering it was our first straight run thru... second night was better, small croud, we had to delay the play since there was a soccer game in the stadium next to our school.... bleh... third night awesome croud, sold out! *thumbs up*... i forgot the choreography for one movement in the song we did the choreography for the day before... each night, we did an involuntary 'encore' if you know what i mean. the first night they did taht, but YYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSS, we had to do it everynight, even when they didn't want it... it was pretty sad... cast party was ok... the people didn't want to do anything spontaneously, so we stayed at school and watched a freakin movie, of all freakin types, a freakin musical... i wassoooo sick of drama that day... BLEH!!!
THE CONCL
well sure it was an experience, i'm glad i did it, i had lots of fun, i met lots of new people, i'm going into the thespian class, but i can complain!!! LOL... like always, the pessimist i am, about other things when i'm not around girls haha... i'm such a phony.. lol... well anyhoo i found it to be not very well organized, i found more and more often the choir teacher and the director were on different ends... they were good, but not organized. the script not being avaliable the first day of rehearsal also slowed things down, so did the choosing of the parts with only like 5 weeks left... it was stressful... I also found that the people here weren't too serious, mainly the guys; *cough* john *cough*... there were other people that were in the play, some girls, but none of them took the play seriously... they always laughed when work needed to be done, never were focused during the play, in or after, many of them, including me though not close to what they did(i'm taking some of the blame here), just couldn't stop talking. they just kept talking blahblahblah... the director also didn't take much seriously. I really am starting to miss, however sad this may be, mr. wolbert's directing... this director took nothing seriously, everything ttook too slow. having 8 weeks rehearsal every day for 2 1/2 hours, one would think we could've gotten at least one full runthrough before the show... meh....
overall however, great experience, just wish the peoople here were more serious... i hope tyler, if he comes, 'll be able to help me straighten these guys out
peace out my passionate fans
