xkcd has a comic featuring a certain graph, which is considered a spectacular vindication of a scientific prediction. Anyway, for your personal enjoyment and edification, here is my favourite graph:

It isn't particularly attractive, I know. No pleasing curves. But it is still excellent; it describes how a neural impulse travels from one nerve cell to the next. Basically, it is thought. I wish I could show this to people every time they express incredulity in my disbelief in "mind" and disparage the idea of "just chemistry and stuff". Just chemistry and maths and biology and cells and stuff is not to be disparaged. They are elegant, and beautiful, so much so that sometimes I feel like crying. Should I be guilty about this? Sometimes I find something in a book or it gets explained to me and it is just breathtakingly awesome. Like fish and the lateral line system. Just.

Ok. I'm fairly sure I just fangirled. About Biology. So I go back to my hole now.

science, thought, art
