Choir trip report and more X-country stuff.

L had a great time in New Zealand. The choir director took me aside at the airport to say not only did L not get homesick but he didn't want to leave. He wanted us to meet him there so he could go see more of the country. His favorite parts of the tour were the Antartic Center, the Koala Preserve, the ocean, and going on the luge (a cement luge trail with modern go-carts, this might have been in Australia). L showed me the 8x10 picture of him holding a koala, a side view with both of them looking at the camera. It is the cutist picture! I asked him if the Koala later tried to claw his face off, 'cause, well, it's a bear and he's holding it! He really liked the kiwis (birds & people) and the Mauri culture. I won't be surprised if he and S go back to N.Z. for a year or so when they get older.

Crosscountry cont...

e). When three radio stations are available one will be country music and two will be Christian talk.

f). Highest gas was found in Elko, Nevada at $3.49, but at the Gas & Sip just six blocks away (and still insight of the freeway for those of you ((ok, one of you)) who care about that sort of thing) it was $3.11.

g). Fremont, Nebraska, has a large Freemason hospital and children's recovery residence. S would like to join the Masons when he turns 18.

h). Walking on the Salt Flats can be a blinding experience. The 3 of us walked around with both hands flat out and against our noses to block out the reflecting sunshine from the white ground. I looked to see if other families would try it, but nobody did. Rats.

i). Best stop was at Angel Lake located in the Ruby mountains just outside of Wells, Nevada. I used to work here with the Forest Service. It's a small round glacial lake near the top of the range. We hiked to the glacial waterfall (yes, the small glacier is still there.), tasted the water in the fast flowing creek, smelled the most fragrant wildflowers, and had a view of about 60 miles to the east. While S climbed around barefoot, L sat with me and said this is the kind of place he was always trying to draw when he was younger.

j). There are times when hugging doesn't say enough.
