Safety Tips

I realize it's tempting to cheat, but even if weight lifting guidelines seem to hold you back, short term safety leads to long term performance.

1: When performing squats and deadlifts, watch your posture and keep your back straight. You can keep your posture by keeping your chin up and focusing on pushing through your heels.  Some lifters exercise barefoot because the extra padding in the soles of sports shoes lean people forward.

2: Don't arch your back when performing bench presses. Compressing your spine is a no-no.

3: Perform complicated exercises first when your mind and body are fresh.

4: Watch the heat advisories. I remember when I was a teenager my Tae Kwon Do instructor thought a July day would be a good time to toughen us up. We practiced without a fan and only drinking every thirty minutes. I fainted. He never did that again.
