i did it!
i slept alone last night.
gavin was *exhausted*. i put him down at 7:30 and he was out like a light. i waited for him to wake up, and sure enough, 90 minutes later he was up. jon wasn't home, so i had no Jedi Mind Trick to fall back on. i went in, talked to him for a minute, patted him and covered him up... then left him there, screaming. =(
i knew it would be bad so i took a bath - the 5 minutes where the water was running and i couldn't hear him were quite relaxing. he didn't scream for long, but settled into this pattern of crying for 30 seconds every 5 minutes or so. he did this until after 10, so it was a while.
okay, fast forward to his next wake up time, which was 12:30. i literally went to the door, got back in bed, went to the door, got back in bed. i couldn't decide what to do. he was whining, but then started calling "mama, mama" so i didn't want to ignore him completely. i ended up going in, and i nursed him in the glider. then i tried to get him to go to sleep with me in my bed, but he wouldn't, he just freaked out that i wouldnt let him nurse. so i put him back in the crib, he screamed for a minute and then went to sleep.
so the rest of the night is a blur- i think i heard him cry here and there but it never picked up to screaming, so i let him be. the next thing i knew, it was 6:15 and i heard him on the monitor saying, "uh-oh, uh-oh." i went in and he had a huge poop, so i think that's what the ouh-oh was about.
but we made it! i have a feeling tonight will be worse, but now that i have a night under my belt, i dont think i'll cave and start nursing him in bed again. we had a lovely little reunion after i changed his diaper- we snuggled and nursed but i made sure the light was on and i was talking to him and playing with him the whole time... i dont want to connect nursing and sleep any more than it's already connected.
