Miranda and other members of the task force were busy organizing the final touches of their operation.
The plan was to attack Asari Imperial Embassy in New York. A strike commando consisting of the best Cerberus fighters would capture the building and any asari leaders present there. They would also seize the asari records and distribute them to their allies.
The asari would be given an ultimatum to abandon their facilities and property on Earth and move off the planet immediately under the threat of executing the captured matriarchs.
The other resistance organizations on Earth would stand ready to seize all asari technology and defense installations all around the globe.
The asari will have three days to abandon the solar system entirely at which point the Charon relay will be surrounded with proximity mines (delivered to them by their benefactor), preventing the passage of hostile imperial vessels ever again.
Given the scope of the attack, secrecy was necessary. The other resistance organizations will have to be fully informed only at the very last minute in order to prevent security leaks to the asari intelligence.
There were many details that needed to be mapped out… At the end of the day, Miranda was just exhausted.
While having dinner in the mess hall, Shepard joined her at her seat.
“So how is it going, Miranda?” Shepard asked as she began to eat her own dinner.
“I can hardly believe it, Shepard, but everything is in motion” Miranda smiled. “In few days, Earth will be ours again”
“I can’t even remember what that was like… I was only three when they came” Shepard shrugged.
“It will be beautiful, Shepard… finally, we will be free” Miranda beamed with pride.
Shepard looked at her. “You know, Miranda, you never told me why you joined the Cerberus in the first place”
“Oh, I suppose it’s fair of you to ask. After all, I’ve already got to learn everything there is to know about you, Shepard…”
“Like many, I joined because of my family… The first thing I can remember as a child were asari commandos arresting my father - a businessman named Henry Lawson. I never saw him again after that. Most likely, he ended up as their slave…” Miranda frowned.
“Why? What happened?”
“They charged him with illegal genetic manipulations” she explained. “Apparently, he used genetic engineering to create my genome…” Miranda said.
“The asari officials tried to convince me that he did not care about me… that he was only selfishly trying to create his dynasty… but I knew better than to believe them. As soon as I was able, I liquidated the estate I inherited from my father and went over to the resistance… to avenge him” Miranda finished.
“So you are here for revenge?” Shepard asked. Revenge was a common motive for many resistance members, but Shepard sensed that there was more to Miranda.
“Well not entirely…” Miranda admitted. “I still have a younger sister… Oriana” she said with smile.
“Is she member of the Cerberus too?” Shepard asked.
“No. I wanted her to have a normal life” Miranda explained. “She is completely normal… going to high-school right now”
“You care for her” Shepard stated.
“Yes…” Miranda said. “Getting revenge for my father would be nice… but most of all, I am working for her. To ensure that one day, she will have a complete freedom to choose what she wants to do with her life… to make sure that the asari never do to us, what they did to our father.
Miranda looked over at Shepard. “I think that you of all people can understand that, Shepard… after all, they took a parent from you as well”
“I would rather die than let the asari put me in chains one day… or Ori” Miranda said with fire in her eyes.
Shepard looked at her sadly. ”Oh, Miranda. If only you could let go of your hate… it would make things so much easier for you” she thought while studying the woman’s face.
“Shepard… I want you in my strike team” Miranda began to speak again after a while.
“That’s right, I will direct this personally… no way I am sitting this one out” Miranda explained seeing Shepard’s confused stare.
Eventually, Shepard smiled.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, Miranda”
Miranda nodded and raised her glass. “To freedom”
“To freedom” Shepard repeated as they clicked their glasses.

That's right! Go humans! Show those asari who's boss! Be sure to capture a few on the way! Well, that or get caught by the asari. I'm completely OK with that too. Doesn't matter so long as smut happens ;}
