In the following weeks, Shepard and Jack conducted several more raids. Fortunately, none of their subsequent missions were as exciting as the first one.

They were all supply runs, stealing eezo and medicine. There was no contact with the asari to speak of.

While their missions were mundane in nature, Shepard knew that there was a big action in planning… She just had no idea how big.

After her first mission, which was later revealed to be sort of final audition for her, she was officially admitted into the inner circle of Cerberus. She even got to video-chat with their mysterious leader - the Illusive man.

Apparently, nobody has ever seen him in reality. There were many wild theories and explanations concerning his enigmatic behavior…

The more optimistic members, like Jack, thought that he was currently off-world, coordinating with other resistance groups.

The realists, like Shepard and Miranda, assumed that he was a recluse with a knack for data coordination and that he was hiding in some old bunker in the middle of nowhere.

The craziest one claimed that he was actually a disguised asari who grew dissatisfied with the empire’s policy…

Either way, Shepard was much more interested in their mysterious benefactor. Once she was closer to the leadership of Cerberus, she saw just how much the human resistance depended on him… or her.

He seemed to be able to deliver nearly infinite amounts of credits and his supply deliveries were always complete and on-time. In addition, Shepard heard that some of the stealth technology being delivered to them was very advanced, surpassing even the asari empire standard.

It was clear that there would be no human resistance to speak of without him… This made Shepard very suspicious of his motives.

She could not fathom why anyone would give such a massive support towards what most sensible people considered lost cause. And more importantly, what did he hope to gain…
