Garrus Vakarian's woke up to a headache that would stagger a Krogan and a pair of aching wrists. As his eyes slowly came back into focus, it began to dawn on him that the reason his wrists were aching was that he was hanging from them, chained to a wall in what looked like a pretty low-rent part of Omega. Huh. Either he and Jane had both gotten very, very drunk last night or-
"Ah, you're awake." The young male Human leaning against the other wall gave him a spare smile. "Just in time for the main event, too."
"What the-" Garrus shook his head, trying to clear it. Spirits, not again. He was far too sober to deal with this.
"Oh, you'll see." Dammit, now he had a monologue to go with his hangover. "We grabbed your little girlfriend and all her pals along with you. Thought we'd let you watch while we remind her why she should stick with humans." A smirk. "And maybe have some fun with the other sluts, too."
The boy was practically vibrating with glee as he waited for Garrus' reaction to that. It almost made him wish he could muster up more than a disappointed sigh. Which, apparently, was not what the boy had been expecting. "Uh. You seem awfully calm about-"
"Uh huh. Look, let me give you some advice." Garrus hung his head down in a vain attempt to force more blood into it. "You seem like you're not a bad kid, maybe just fell in with the wrong crowd. What you really ought to do is let me go and get out of here, before something really bad happens to you."
"Says who?", the kid sneered. "You're tied up, and we've got all the bitches right where we want them. All we're waiting for is--"
The room they were in shook slightly, and a second later the dull, muted *whump* sound of raw fuel catching fire came through the ventilation ducts. The kid's eyes widened as he turned and dashed out of the room, clawing for the heavy pistol on his belt. "Guys? Guy's what going on?"
Garrus sighed again, settling down as he waited for his head to clear. "Ancestors bear me witness. I tried. I really, really tried."
And I think choosing Garrus was an even better choice than Shepard would have been. You wrote him really well (I can totally imagine Garrus saying that) and he seems like he would react like this. John seems more like he'd go ballistic.

"Let me make sure I have this straight." Commander Jane Shepard gave the scruffy-looking human smirking at her from across the dimly lit warehouse room a glare. "You've got a grudge against a Spectre."
"I do. And her sidekicks. Can't forget them." The man grinned, and the semi-circle of gangsters behind him laughed, leering.
"Excuse me." Admiral Tali'Zorah vas Normandy looked up from the chair she was tied to, about five feet to the right of Shepard's. "Crewmembers, thank you very much. I'm nobody's sidekick."
"Associates," Liara T'soni chimed in from her chair, next over from Tali's.
"Fellow soldiers," offered Ashley Williams from the last chair in line.
Shepard silenced her crew with a quick glare. "Whatever you want to call them. Us. I'm going to assume you didn't sleep through the Reaper War."
"Or get hit on the head and lose your memories of it." Shepard glanced over at Liara. "What? Blows to the head frequently give humans amnesia. I saw it on Star-Crossed." Some of the smarter gangsters arrayed against them were starting to trade uneasy glances by this point, but the front man still had a confident smirk on his face as he started to pace towards them with his men behind.
"Maybe he's not a vid watcher." Ashley shrugged slightly. "I know I just saw the season finale of Lucky Sevens."
"Well don't spoil it." Tali tilted her head back, an edge coming into her voice. "Some of us are still getting caught up, Williams."
"Ahem."
"Sorry, Skipper." Jane glared at the approaching thug.
"Anyway, you probably know our records. So you know what we're capable of. And your plan was to kidnap and rape us?"
"That's right, baby." The man leaned forward into Jane's personal space, his lips just inches from her ear. "Because I know what you really are, deep down. I know the more cunts like you pretend to be tough, the more they want a real man to show them what their place is. I know how badly you want to give in. And I know that once I get my cock in you, you'll break like a little glass doll."
"Wow." Jane's voice was a soft, breathy whisper back in his ear. "I didn't want to believe it. But it's true.

Before the thug could react Jane threw her weight back in the chair, falling onto her back and using the momentum to throw her would-be rapist across the room. The air left his lungs with a whoop as he landed on the steel-plated floor behind her, and Jane rolled to the side fractions of a second before the first shots rang out from the other gangsters. The first volley went wide, but as Jane craned her neck to look up she could see the muzzles turning to follow her movement.
A wave of blue energy knocked the shooters in front of her over before they could fire again, sending them crashing to the deck. Out of the corner of her eye Jane could see Liara rising from the shattered remains of her chair, hands glowing with brilliant cyan as she looked for her next target. There were three who'd managed to dodge Liara's biotic throw, but a second later they all screamed as the pistols in their hands began to glow red-hot. Glancing over, Jane saw Tali working her omni-tool- her hands were still tied behind her back, but that made little difference as her fingers worked through sequences on her omnitool just as surely as if it had been in front of her face. Next to her Jane could see Ashley pluck Tali's boot knife out of a blue biotic glow and slice through her bonds, then spring up with a blood-chilling shout to bury it in the nearest thug's stomach.
That left the three right in front of her, who were slamming new heat sinks into their weapons and drawing a bead on Jane's crew. She still didn't know how she was going to get untied, but there wasn't any time and before she knew it Jane's Cerberus-enhanced muscles had her up and heading for the target. She didn't quite know what her assailants made of her- a redheaded woman, arms and legs still tied to a chair, hopping towards them with her best war face on- but it confused them for half a second. That was all she needed. Jane ducked one shoulder down and drove it into the first man's gut, sending him reeling back to the floor. When the second made a grab for her she simply pivoted, swinging the chair against him with enough force to send it clattering to the floor in a pile of dry wood. Jane took a second to kick her way out of the ropes just as the last thug backpedaled away from her, raising his pistol to the ready.
"Stay back. Stay back. I got a gun you b-" It might have been an effective threat against another opponent, but Jane Shepard had always tested high in reflexes in high school, back before N7 training honed them to a keen edge and Cerberus spent a half-billion credits rewiring her nerves. By the time the thug's optic nerve got around to informing his brain that his target was moving, she was already on him. When the signal to tighten reached his trigger finger it was already old news. Jane's hand had slammed into his chin, sending him backwards for the deck as her other hand plucked the pistol from his suddenly limp hand.
Jane smiled down into his glassy-eyed face. "And now you don't." She turned back to her crew. "We all good, ladies?"
"Just a second." Ashley had just finished cutting Tali loose from her bonds, and the quarian's omnitool flared into existence again. Across the warehouse, the two gang members who'd been smart enough to start running suddenly saw a cascade of sparks play across the fuel barrels next to them. The fuel ignited with a *whump*, sending them sprawling to the deck, and Tali nodded. "Yep. We're good."

"Guys?" A young male voice came from the corridor outside the warehouse. "Guys, what's going on?" A young male human skidded into the room and stopped, taking in the scene in front of him. Liara glowing with power, Tali with her omnitool ready, Ashley bringing her knife back up into a fighting stance. And in front of them Jane Shepard, her pistol shifting to track him as though it was an extension of her arm. Before any of them could move, the boy's pistol fell out of his nerveless hands and down to the deck. "Uh. I-I surrender!"
"Well, well." Jane's voice was light as ever as she backed up, heading for where the thugs' leader was still coughing for air on the deck. "Looks like at least one of your boys isn't a complete fugitive from the laws of natural selection, mister." She smiled as she stood over him, Ashley and Liara moving behind her to take charge of their prisoner, and aimed her new pistol down at his head. "One-time offer, shithead. Where's the turian you grabbed with us?"
"D-down the hall." The man's eyes were wide and wet as they looked up at her. "Oh God. Oh God please don't kill me."
"Not gonna." Jane's lips curled upwards, putting an edge into her smile, her aim point shifting lower. "But since C-SEC Medical offers organ regeneration these days, I've got no problem sending you to the penalty box for a bit. You can use the time they take to grow a new pair to think about using them responsibly.
"Aiiiiiieeeeeeeeee…."

"Hanging around on the job, Vakarian?"
"Oh merciful Ancestors, no."
"I mean, we're here to spring you but if you'd rather just hang out-"
"Shepard, I'm in enough agony as it is. Do I really deserve this too?"
"Well, you know, we had to rescue ourselves. You kinda left us hanging."
"Ah, you're awake." The young male Human leaning against the other wall gave him a spare smile. "Just in time for the main event, too."
"What the-" Garrus shook his head, trying to clear it. Spirits, not again. He was far too sober to deal with this.
