Shepard woke up to find herself in a cell… or maybe a room would be more accurate. There were no bars, there was furniture in the room and her bed was comfortable.
She immediately remembered how she got here and was surprised that she did sport only a minor headache.
Before she could get out of her bed, the door of her room opened and two humans entered. There was a dark-haired human woman. Shepard thought that she was very beautiful. The other one was a man with a large scar over his left cheek.
Despite the asari anti-gun laws, Shepard noted that they were both armed.
“Or hell, maybe I am not even on Earth anymore” she thought with amusement.
She briefly considered summoning her biotics, but she felt deep inside that she was still relatively week from her ordeal. Besides, if they wanted to kill her, they would have done so already. She decided to play nice for a while, but also to watch them carefully.
The two of them took chairs and sat next to her bed as she sat up, groaning and massaging her temples.
“Hello Adriana, my name is Miranda Lawson” the woman said. “I am sorry for the manner in which you were brought here” the woman said and offered a hand for Shepard to shake.
“No kidding…” Shepard said while sneezing. She shook Miranda’s hand.
“You should now, that our intervention probably saved your life, or at the very least, your freedom…” Miranda said and Shepard raised an eyebrow at her.
“Soon after you left the bar, the police searched a sizable part of the surrounding area, looking for the illegal human biotic .
“You are wanted on several charges, the sum of which guarantees you immediate enslavement and deportation… a significant bounty was placed on your head” Miranda informed her. “Fortunately, they do not know your name”
Shepard stood up and walked to a small window. She looked outside but did not recognize her surroundings. They appeared to be deep in some kind of coniferous forest, definitely not in the Mexico anymore. It was still night, but there was a light gradually appearing over the horizon.
Shepard glanced to the fading stars, quickly finding Polaris. She knew that she was in the northern hemisphere, possibly somewhere in Russia, but that was about all she could tell.
Miranda and the man stood up and walked closer to her, waiting while she looked out of the window.
“Since I do not see any asari here, I assume you are not about to claim the bounty on my head?” Shepard finally asked, turning to look at them.
“No” Miranda said resolutely while the man shook his head with a smile. “In fact, we hope you will triple it yet” he said.
