The human rebelions
Earth, 2179, Asari Imperial Embassy
“Still no progress in apprehending these terrorists?” matriarch Lidanya said nervously while reviewing the latest report from the member of the human government.
“No, I am sorry, Matriarch” the woman sitting across the table from her said. “We were so far unable to gather useful intel on their plans, nor were we able to plant an agent into their midst”
“Although, I have to admit that many of our operatives are secretly harboring sympathies to this 'Cerberus' movement, so I tend to treat their findings with suspicion” she said.
Matriarch Lidanya put down the datapad and looked at the woman sitting in front of her. The human was physically similar to her grandfather - general Benjamin Williams, who himself died five years ago. Natural causes.
Lidanya smiled as she remembered him with fondness. He was the man who peacefully delivered Earth and his entire species into the hands of the asari empire.
In year 2157, human reckoning, the asari empire first encountered humanity in the form of research ships which were attempting to activate a dormant mass relay 314.
The ships were seized and their crews interrogated. From them, the asari learned everything there is to know about humanity.
A swift decision was reached by the empire's leadership. This new species needed to be brought to a heel as soon as possible. Based on their history records, the humans were judged to be a reckless and self-destructive species, clearly inferior to the asari.
Even more than the other conquered species throughout the galaxy, the humans desperately needed asari leadership and control. And the empire was happy to provide it. From this point on, humanity's destiny would be determined solely by their asari superiors.
After the empire assembled large fleet, they entered human space and surrounded their colony planets, space stations and other habitats. They also blocked the mass relay access to the solar system, preventing the humans from escaping into the galaxy.
It was at this point that humanity was given an ultimatum.
They could willingly submit to the asari empire. Their property outside the Sol system would be confiscated, as would be their colony worlds, fleets and weapons. Any human activity outside their home system would be strictly under asari's control.
Sol system itself would come under protection of the asari empire and an asari governor would be placed on Earth with a right to veto any decisions made by the Earth governments.
The humans would be however otherwise free to govern their own affairs as long as they did not actively threaten asari's interests.
If they refused, the asari would invade their planets and their species would become another conquered slave race, the humans forfeiting all rights for self-determination.
In the end, something between those two options became a reality.
