The Family Next Door 3/3

Jack started using a cane a few days before Little John and Little Sarah got married, John was spared one because of his prosthetics. But there was no hiding the stoop in his back, or the grey in his beard.
Harper began to manage things on the Lee Farm, and Little John did the same with the Foster farm. Jackson, the youngest Lee, ran off to join the Alliance Marines after a furious fight with his father. Rasa stayed to look after her aging parents.
Jack never thought he'd die before the younger, sprightlier John, but the man's war wounds took their toll. His hair and beard turned to white, his strength faded away, and soon Jack found himself standing by the man's bedside, along with the rest of his family and friends.
Jack couldn't exactly tell why John's smile was so broad as he looked around at the people clustered near him...but he could take a pretty good guess.
They buried him under the orchard, where he liked to walk in the evenings. Sandy smiled and put on a brave face, continuing to dote on her ever growing brood of grandchildren, but it only took three years before Jack found himself helping to lower her down next to her husband.
Yes, there had always been something strange about those Lees, I tell you. But no stranger than the rest of us out here on Horizon.
By the way, Stranger, I didn't happen to catch your name? Shepard? Oh, well, that's an easy to remember, heh. Say, were you a friend of John's?

Beautiful, I enjoy something a bit more different once in a while, and this seems a fitting scenario; them finding some peace while always subliminally acknowledging their dark past, especially on Horizon and stuff...
