Okay, so... I can't promise for 100% certain that this will be finished or if the updates will come in a timely manner, but I'll do my best.
Shepard turned from the window at the sound of her apartment door chiming. She rolled her eyes-the doorbell was an empty courtesy. It’s not like she had the authority to keep anyone out.
It didn’t matter much anyways. No one came in except her guard, Lieutenant Vega. She headed towards the living room expecting to see him, but blinked in surprise when she found her old mentor standing in the entry instead. She broke into a smile.
“So, you’ve finally decided to come see me?” she teased striding over to shake the newly-minted Admiral’s hand. “Been too busy doing admiral stuff, I imagine.”
David Anderson smiled reflexively as he gripped her hand. He’d always had a soft spot for Shepard. “I’m glad to see imprisonment hasn’t destroyed your sense of humor,” he said. “Unfortunately, I don’t have the luxury of purely social visits. I’m actually here to discuss the medical report from your examination.”
Shepard raised a brow as she motioned him to sit on the couch. “Must be bad news if they sent you,” she said dryly, settling in across from him. “So what is it? Reaper tech? Tracking devices? I’m actually just a robot under there?”
“The doctors and scientists hardly recognize any of the tech inside you, but you’re certainly human,” Anderson assured her. “They’ve also eliminated the possibility of a tracking device or control chip. But you will have to go back for some more testing today. Quite a bit of it, I’m afraid.”
She leaned back on the couch, crossing one leg across the other. “Ugh, don’t tell me they screwed up the blood test or something,” she grumbled. “I think doctors do these things to spite me. Chakwas always gives me fewer painkillers after I do something she thinks is too reckless…”
Anderson raised a hand to silence her. “Shepard, just stop for one second and listen to me,” he ordered.
She fell silent, fixing a questioning gaze on her former mentor. It really must be serious if Anderson was this anxious.
He took a breath and let it out slowly. There was no easy way to say it. “Shepard… the doctors think you’re pregnant.”
