So Wrong, Yet So Right 22/?

“They wouldn’t go look for your body,” she explained, “Said it burned up in the atmosphere. I told him he was the reason you had a damn Council seat, and that if he had any balls left, he’d stop taking it up the ass from the other Councilors and find you.”
“Next thing I know, two guards are hauling me away as I try to clamber over the desk at him,” she continued, her head lolling back to rest against his chest, staring at the ceiling. “He laughed it off, said he’d been called worse, but I still feel bad.”
“I think he understands,” John assured her, “But what have you been doing, since the Council won’t let you do anything?”
“They give me jobs,” Jane said dismissively, “Bullshit, make-work, wild-goose-chase jobs, but still. I chased some thief halfway across the galaxy for three months before they gave the job to some salarian. As far as I know, she doesn’t even exist.”
“A Spectre chasing a specter?” John said lightly.
Jane twisted her head around to look at him, and he was glad to see a familiar scornful look on her pale face.
“Better than the dozen-odd ‘information-gathering’ missions I was forced into.”
Jane grabbed his wrists and wrapped his arms around her waist, her favorite place. She could rest her arms on his and hold his hands in hers, all at once.
“Sat in a warehouse watching crates move for two weeks before I swallowed my pride and apologized to Anderson. Asked if I could do anything to help.”
“Anything good?”
“Slavers, pirates, occasional terrorist group,” she said nonchalantly, pointedly not saying Cerberus, John decided. “Wasn’t the same though, without you. Ash came along, saved me more than a few times when I slipped up and thought you were there.”
“Like this one time,” Jane said, rolling up her half-sleeve to show a new scar on her bicep, a small line that cut across it diagonally, “Omega. Huge krogan’s charging me, and I’m just standing there. Thought you would just headbutt it into submission while I line up the shot on his friend. Only looked up when it blocked my scope as Ash blew half his face away.”
She flexed her arm, making the scar jump. “Asshole fell right on top of me and scraped my arm,” she pouted. Rolling her sleeve back down, she returned her hands to her waist, interlacing their fingers once more.
“Ash thought I either had balls of steel or a death wish,” she laughed.
“How is she? Anderson wouldn’t say what she was up to.”
“She’s good.” Jane wasn’t telling him the full story, he could tell, but he didn’t press it as unwrapped herself and stood, turning around to offer him a hand up. He took it, and she hauled him up easily, like she had so many times before.
“Catwoman said the Collectors are connected to the Reapers,” Jane said, staring him right in the eye, “And that you’re going after them.”
After figuring out who Catwoman was, John nodded, and Jane’s look hardened.
“Good. I’m coming with you.”
She let go of his hand, shoving the empty trash can back to Anderson’s desk before making for the door.
“Jane-“ he started, but she just waved a hand at him over her shoulder, resolutely striding to the door.
“Try and stop me,” she taunted, opening the door and making a beeline for Miranda, who pushed herself away from the wall, “I’m not me without you, and you’re not you without me.”
Pausing outside of the door, she glared back at him. “We both know it, and I’ll be damned if I let you finish this without me.”
John sighed exasperatedly. Not how he had imagined it at all. He smiled at her back, however. Saved him the trouble of tying her up and dragging her along.

I swear occifer, it started out as angst. Again, criticism is welcome about this part and the story as a whole, as I wish to improve my skills. Porn is coming in the next part, even though I desperately want Ash to say "Threesomes? Hell yeah!"

You're doing great a!a, keeping going. This is my favourite on-going fill at the moment, and I love the relationship you've built up between John and Jane.

OP here. I'm trying to come up with something helpful, but I really don't have anything negative to say about this section. I love when John wrapped his arms around her waist. I could practically feel it. The part about her trying to climb over Anderson's desk made me laugh right before it made me really, really sad. From Jane's reactions in general, I really get the sense of her trying to sort out her emotions. Her numb tone is perfect for this. I can sense her grief, anger, and confusion warring with each other. I like how you've played the twins off of each other. Jane feels understandably stiff, and for whatever reason, John feels agitated and liquid. I'm too tired to explain that better. I just like how they mix. For John's part, I like how you're handling him. I feel like I can relate to his problems. Though, I know damn well that I really can't and never could since I've never died and came back and had to break it to a sibling who was also a lover. You've kind of achieved the impossible. I must praise you forever for not turning this into melodramatic, tearful, sappy goosh. It would have been so easy for it to turn that direction. It's sweet but not sappy. You've made it angsty and dramatic, but you have not made it broody and whiny. You've even made it sexy when you mentions the 18th birthday gift. (Yum by the way. That's what I should've asked for.) I think you've really created a brilliant balance.

Wow, I'm really dense. Yes, A!A. I would love for you to mysteriously work in a very detailed flashback of their first time. And you know, the teasing and coercing that led up to that. But if you can't fit it in, then I'd still be disgustingly happy with this fill.

Great. Great.
GREAT.
Now I have to flirt with underage content in addition to thinking of new ways to insert body parts into each other AND working gratuitous smut into a half-story, half-sex-crazed fill.
Oh, you can't take it back now. We both asked for it. There's no going back for us, we're in too deep.
That and I've been dying to write this ever since you put this idea into my head. I may start charging you rent, you've been in there so long.
You also make a great straight man. We should do comedy.

I was about to say that I'm actually a girl, but then I got what you meant. If you find us a venue then I'll risk getting rotten tomatoes thrown at us.

Really great stuff, A!A. You're really getting me invested in this whole relationship, and making it equal parts deliciously dirty, and legitimately sweet.
Can't wait to see what Ash's role ends up being in this. And whether the Shep-siblings will ever let anyone in on their little secret. Keep up the great work!

Your glowing praise gives me an authorial boner, and both motivates and terrifies me to not disappoint you.
(Also, ask for it. I have no idea how to work it into this story, however)
