Upon arriving at the CIC, Shepard found she was a bit early, so she reflexively walked up to see what Joker was up to. Like Garrus, he was one of the precious few people on the SR-2 she was sure she could trust.
"What's happening?"
He turned his chair around. "Just trying to get ahold of some people on the Citadel. See if they want to meet up."
"Sounds good. Hey, Garrus is supposed to meet me any time here, we're going down to the wards. If you don't have any definite plans yet you can join us for a while." Shepard offered.
Joker made a wavering hum of indecision as his eyes followed something behind her in the CIC. "...Nahhh, you two go ahead. I'd just be a third wheel."
Shepard sat down on one of the large protrusions in the cockpit she always assumed were structural supports. She crossed her arms in front of her, flicking her eyes up at Garrus as she noticed him sidling up. She turned her attention back to Joker. "You sure?"
Shepard had known Joker for some time, but she couldn't recall ever seeing him look so uncomfortable. He looked from Shepard to Garrus, then back again.
Shepard sighed. Here it comes. "Out with it."
"Well... aren't you two seeing each other? Or something? I don't know what to call it."
Garrus didn't seem too bothered that they'd been found out - his baritone laugh filled the cockpit. "Yeah, I didn't know what to call it either."
"Who told you?" Although she didn't really care that Joker knew, she was still curious.
"Nobody told me. I have eyes and ears, and I'm not dumb. You two have always made googly eyes at each other, and last night I noticed you eating in the mess, leaving together, then being MIA for the rest of the night."
"Well, most of the night." The pilot corrected himself. "I went down to the medbay a little after 0200 and who do you think I saw chowing down on a second dinner, looking like they just smoked all the pot in the Terminus systems?" Joker pointed at the both of them at the same time with a ridiculous open-mouthed grin, all but daring them to deny it. "I completely saw googly eyes. Red googly eyes."
Now it was Shepard's turn to laugh as she stood up. "All right, all right. Just keep it to yourself for now."
"Yeah, okay." Joker scoffed as he adjusted his cap and turned his seat back around. "You are aware half the crew knows already, right?."
"Knows what? That we're dating or that we smoked all the pot in the Terminus Systems?" Garrus asked rather loudly, his words attracting the attention of the only other crew member in the CIC.
"Nice one, Vakarian! Now Hadley knows!" Shepard exclaimed as she gestured toward the man nearby, who looked like he was desperately attempting to merge with his chair to avoid notice. "Oh, whatever. I don't even care anymore. Let's go."
