“What the hell,” said Gabby.
“It’s adorable,” said Kasumi.
“It’s an animal. In what’s supposed to be a clean zone. Wow. And here I thought human hygiene habits couldn’t get any worse,” Tali said, and then seemed to shrink into herself upon realising that she was the only non-human in the room. “Um. Present company excluded.”
“Now I’m no fucking schoolgirl, but even I know those are extinct,” said Jack.
“Well obviously not,” said Miranda, turning up behind them. “Since a living one is right here.”
Jack muttered something unflattering under her breath, obviously targeted at Miranda. Seeing a fight about to erupt Kasumi turned to the XO and said, “Look at it. Isn’t it adorable?”
Miranda tilted her head and squinted at the dinosaur. “For a given value of adorable, perhaps. One I would more likely subscribe to were it behind glass.”
Liara, who’d been visiting Shepard following her dubiously legal acquisition of the Shadow Broker's base, appeared in the doorway carrying a large plate piled implausibly high with sandwiches. “Wait,” she said, crunching on one, “aren’t those supposed to be extinct?”
“Well that’s what we were just goddamn saying, innit?” drawled Zaeed somewhat laconically from his position in the corridor just outside the door.
There was a slightly awkward pause. Liara took the opportunity to eat another sandwich.
“There appears to be an unknown organic in the organic waste disposal centre,” Legion stated blankly as it also entered the - now rather crowded - bathroom. “This does not compute.”
Gabby rounded on him furiously. “Out, out, out. This is the women’s bathroom. What do you think you’re doing, coming in here?”
“Geth have no concept of gender. We do not understand the problem.” “Fine,” She sighed, “you can stay. But none of the rest of you,” she yelled, poking her head out the door, “you understand me?”
Garrus, who was walking down the corridor with Samara, said “hey, what did I ever do to your bathroom?” indignantly.
Samara, as always, was offended for a different reason. “I know that asari are not technically female, but I believe it is more inappropriate for me to use the male bathroom.”
There was a brief period of uncomfortable silence. Liara polished off two more sandwiches.
“That is so not what I meant,” protested Gabby.
“Nevertheless,” responded Samara, “that is what you said.”
