“We’re trying to rally as many forces as we can to fight Cerberus and the Reapers. I think we’re making progress, but the Citadel races are a bit tied up defending their homeworlds right now. We’ve decided to try and focus on making friends among the Terminus. I’m on Aria’s good side, I thought she’d be willing to listen to me. Didn’t expect Cerberus to be in charge out here.”
“You know, we seem to be on the same page here,” said Garrus. “You want Cerberus taken down, so do we. Their obsession with cybernetics and genetics just might be related to this entire Reaper business. I think it would be in all of our best interests if we work together to try and find the stolen research and this missing scientist of yours.”
“Sounds good to me. Anything that can put me one step closer to Megan - to recovering what Cerberus took, is good in my book. If you don’t mind, I’d like to talk to my boss. Let him know I may be out of touch for a bit.”
Commander and turian shared a look. They were both sharp people, and hadn’t missed the slight hitch and change in demeanor as soon as the name “Megan” had been mentioned.
They stepped out to give Jensen some privacy as he called up Sarif. On the way out to the CIC, Shepard and Garrus stopped in the small antechamber between the lab and the command deck.
“Spirits, Shepard, I think that man’s cybernetics might be more advanced than yours.”
“It’s no wonder Cerberus hit Sarif Industries. I don’t know if they can bring someone back from the dead, but if Cerberus is working for the Reapers, they’d definitely be interested in stopping technology that appears to be advancing beyond their control.”
“You think we can trust him?”
“Honestly, Garrus, I trust him a helluva lot more than someone like Jack or Zaeed. He seems on the up-and-up, and he has a personal score against Cerberus. At this point, we can use all the help we can get.”
Their talk was interrupted as the door slid open and Jensen walked in. “Sarif’s OK with me joining up with you for now. I also had a chat with my pilot. She’s a little annoyed she doesn’t get to be the one flying me around anymore, but she’ll get over it.”
The turian shook his head in mirth. “Women.”
“Don’t even go there,” glared Shepard.
“Anyway,” said Jensen. “You got any place for me to bunk in?”
