I think the main reason why the Arrival sacrifice didn't carry that much "weight" is because we don't actually know any batarians personally. I think the decision would've been much more poignant if there had been a batarian companion during the quest instead of the doctor.
Choosing between other species will be more meaningful I think because we know characters who would suffer if that happened. If the quarians/turians/salarians were wiped out, it would have impact because we have tali/garrus/mordin right there :x
Exactly, the only experiences we have of batarians to draw upon is 'that guy who fucking poisoned me' and 'those dudes I shoot at all the time' and 'man they're ugly'
Completely agree. I didn't care about blowing up all those Batarians because they've pretty much been the dicks of the universe in both games. I'm surprised they don't have large black mustaches to twirl while they insult every human who passes them by.
If they gave me some real tough choices (save the salarians or the turians) I'd probably be too consumed with emotion.

I like them too tbh. Once I read a prompt on the kink meme where someone requested fluff of a human and batarian from the Omega bar and imagining it made me more tolerant towards the bastards. I don't even think they're that ugly tbh ;w;

OHHHHHH NO YOU DI'IN'T. Naw I ain't gonna cause a shitstorm, I love all the ME species equally I guess~ you do make a point though, AND batarians are easily kissable *rubs chin*

I think it was during Mordin's recruitment mission that I stopped hating the batarians so whole-heartedly. I healed that one dying on the floor and learned that they're actually not all assholes. Just as he probably realized that humans aren't all assholes either.
I just really hope the batarian/human hatred gets resolved in ME3. *crosses fingers*

Not that generates much sympathy for them but it does add to the "I am supposed to feel bad about this WHY?"
