Hello! I am new to this community. I have never felt a need to write fanfiction, but I am incredibly obsessed with Mass Effect and wanted to give it a try. My "favorite couple" is Kaidan and Female Shepard and I wish there were more story around him. So, here is a little something I wrote. Hope you enjoy. :D

Title: A letter for Kaidan
Rating: PG
Genre: Romance, ME2
Warnings: None, I think
Summary: FemShep can't seem to get Kaidan off her mind

“I guess I really don't know who either of us is anymore.”… the words rang through her head over and over again. It had been days since Shepard had received the letter from Kaidan, yet she couldn’t help but read it over and over again, unsure if she should respond.

What had been years for Kaidan, had been what seemed only days to her. It was hard to focus knowing she may never see the person who she cared for most again. But there were things going on out there more important than her love life. People were suffering-they were dying. They were what were important… the mission had to be her first and only priority.

She stood up from her seat at her desk and began to pace around her cabin. For a moment, she stared up at the fish in the aquarium and felt almost jealous of the simple life they led. Swimming peacefully in their glass world, never knowing the horrors going on outside it. She imagined that must have been how people on earth lived hundreds of years ago, before traveling into space and realizing what monsters lived outside their galaxy.

She glanced around her cabin and glimpsed for a moment at the picture of Kaidan on her desk. Her mind began to wander, going back to that night before Ilos. Yes, she remembered it. In fact she thought of it regularly, she had never felt so alive. That’s the kind of effect Kaidan had on her. She had never needed a man, let alone the kind that took the role of a “knight in shining armor” as they use to say, but that was exactly what he was. Her knight, there with her when things got tough, when she felt like she were about to lose control. His words, his touch-it all made the world seem safer.

Shepard closed her eyes for a moment, trying to remember how he felt, wishing she could have held him a moment longer on Horizon. She took a deep breath and shook her head, trying to get the thoughts of him out of her mind. It began to seem hopeless that she could think of anything else.

So, she sat at her desk and began to type at her terminal, still trying to decide as she wrote it what exactly it was. Was it a love letter? Or a good-bye letter?

“Dear Kaidan:
Not a day goes by that I don’t think of the night we spent together. The time we spent together was the happiest I have ever been. My feelings haven’t changed for you. They are just as real today as they were two years ago. But, I understand if you don’t feel the same way and if you need to, I want you to move on. Please just know one thing. I will love you until my last dying breath and nothing will ever change that. “

Jennifer

She stopped for a moment and read the letter to herself and after a few moments she deleted it and began to type again.

“Kaidan:
Please know I am thinking of you and look forward to the day when we will see each other again.

Be safe…be happy.
Commander Shepard”

And with that, she tapped “send” and rose from her seat. She took a deep breath and turned to her door and began to walk to the elevator. She knew she did the right thing, even if it left her feeling empty and broken.
