Them damn masks. aryss_reaper September 10 2010, 12:04:27 UTC
I've played this game approximately 7 times, and there's one thing that always bugs me.

During a few missions (such as boarding the Collector ship for the first time, getting the Reaper IFF and Tali's mission) we see Shepard in a helmet that covers his head completely, yet there are some party members that only wear a mask. Yes, Samara, Jack and Miranda, I'm looking at you. Now, I don't know about asari, but humans ought to be wearing full body protection when bouncing around in space.

I don't know why, but it just irritates me so much, every time I see it. D:

It bothers me like I can't describe. In their decision to make the character designs unique, they took the space out of their space game. They compromised one of the fundamental things about the universe. The idea that Jack could run around on all those planets with nothing but a breather mask is just ridiculous and for me, destroys a certain amount of immersion.

And as I always ask, how did they even get anywhere near the quarian flotilla with all that skin hanging out?

When I took Thane initially with me to the Flotilla, I was so annoyed by the fact that, while he was smart enough to wear a full face mask, he had his fingers and a spot of chest exposed. 'Course, the dossier explains the chest part, but nnnnnnghhhh. I always put him in his DLC outfit now whenever I take him places the masks are used.

It's not just the flotilla, but anywhere. I bloody love Jack, but when I saw her in nothing but her nipple strap, and a mask during my first play through, I seriously wished the developers would have abandoned looking stylish/unique/sexy and instead got things to be more...realistic when it came to that. I'm sure the Collectors wouldn't have been disappointed if they didn't get to see Jack's almost bare chest. Or Miranda's curves. Or Samara's boobage.

I completely baffles me as to WHY Shep can have civilian attire around the Normandy, and the squaddies CAN'T. This whole thing wouldn't be a problem if Jack could just be free to wear her nipple-strap prison suit around the Normandy all she wanted, but was forced to wear ACTUAL GEAR when going on a mission. That way, each squaddie could retain their unique shipboard look for Shep interaction scenes, while still maintaining a believable level of immersion and functionality when they are out killing people and rescuing puppies and stuff.

Just goes to show that the only sensible people to take with you on a mission are Tali and Garrus. :p

I remember the first time I had my Shep go into the Collector ship, breather helmet on. Checking out the squadmates, Garrus' messed up armour looked like a bad idea. Then I looked at Miranda... wth? >_o So, yes.

It should be like ME1 where some people had proper (and changeable!) armour on missions and wore their usual outfit aboard the Normandy. Why is it that new game instalments always remove content? Less equipment, less abilities... it's as if they expect people to get more and more stupid every few years. >(

Or to buy every DLC that comes out. >(((

I had OTHER issues when I went to the Flotilla since I took Legion.

I could rant and rave about that all day. It was the one thing that pissed me off about LotSB. Liara had a damn mask like Jacob. Outside. On a ship that was in a lightning storm due to the influx of boiling hot and frigid air.

Jacob, too? Urgh. Great. I've only seen Garrus and Grunt be normal and cover themselves up.

And I didn't look back at Liara during that mission. Glad I didn't, though. Might have had a smaller nerd rage at her.

Yeah, but Grunt's arms are exposed. D:

There should be a petition at the boards. Full envirosuits for the squadmates.

For Grunt I can understand a bit, after all Krogan seem to love putting themselves into harsh situations. Humans, completely different thing.

Don't forget Jacob and Liara for face masks; possibly Kasumi too. Mordin's is questionable, since it doesn't really cover his eyes (you'd think for someone as brilliant as he is, he'd wear a more appropriate mask, hehe).

I only mentioned them, because they are the ones I have caught in the act.

The Normandy crew needs some reforming. |:|

Zaeed wears a "Jason" style mask which is open in the back and has a bare arm as well. It seems that if you're an NPC, you are immune to vacuum.

It's like he doesn't realize that his eyes will boil in a vacuum. D:
