Jack

I've seen some bashing of Jack's romance recently and it bothers me a little. It's not so much the fact that people dislike it; but that they do so either not having played it, or only having seen the YouTube videos showing the final romance scene. Given the information and clues that Jack reveals about her past and current mental and emotional ( Read more... )

Hey! My M!Shep romanced Jack--only because I wasn't interested in Miranda, and because every fanboy has posted the Tali romance scenes (and I already went with ther awkward romance with my F!Shep romancing Garrus. :3) I actually enjoyed it! He can't fix her right away with talking and legitimate feelings, but he can give her something she hadn't had in a long while--A man that deeply cares about her more than his own life.

I really wish the LIs would talk with your Shepard more regardless if they were romancing them or not (or able to?) My F!Shepard would have listened to Jack's ideas how to screw Cerberus over more now that she blew up the Collector base.

I romanced Jack on my Jayne Shepard playthrough and it is by far my favorite one. It even tops Kaidan's and that's not easy to do in my mind. They didn't even have sex in their romance scene, but no one who's bashed the pairing seems to remember that. Shepard might sound like an ass, but he wasn't going to persuade her into "healing sex" or whatever just as she'd come to accept the feelings of another person.

If people want to sit and bash certain romances, look at Jacob's and Miranda's. I can't romance either because of how cheap they come across to me. I like meaning behind my romance, thankyouverymuchBioWare.

Going to have to disagree with you on the Jacob one. Frankly, he's the only one who turns the table on Shepard to ask if she has any baggage that she needs to unload. I wouldn't judge his romance based on some scuzzy voice acting.

Oh no, I totally appreciated that and felt a little bad for turning him down afterwards, but it still sat ill with me the way he said certain things. If he'd just remained flustered and taken aback by Shepard's very forward advances, it would've been interesting.

I liked how Jacob's romance of how he asked Shepard how she feels and is more moving towards friendship, but the voice acting just ruins that mood. FemShep sounded like some sexy siren ready to catch the next prey and Jacob just looks and sounds so awkward at first. I had to turn off my sound speakers just to hear what they were talking about.

And 'the priiize' line will always be what I would describe Jacob. Though I find myself sorry for Jacob since the writers made him rather cheesy.

Bashing in what way? I personally wished it were possible to romance her as a female Shepard. You get to know her up to a certain point and then you reach a road block where she pretty much clams up and won't talk anymore with you.

I love it when she calls Shepard weird. All throughout their dialog he's so immovable and almost playful with her and she doesn't know how to deal with it.

I also wish there were a friendship path with her as FemShep. I'd have liked to get to know her better, but she's a tough one.

I always thought it was pretty strongly implied that you have sex with your LI, regardless of who it is. If you can make the claim that Jack and Shep didn't do it based on the video (which cuts to black), then you can make the same argument for all of them- no one had sex, because it wasn't on camera. But I don't think Shep and Miranda went down to the engine room to dry-hump through their clothes...

The ick factor, for a lot of people, has to do with getting it on with a crying woman who is obviously in a lot emotional distress. The audience knows (as does Shepard) that Jack has a lot of issues to do with sex, and it just comes off as a terrible time to get into it, even if, as you believe, they only have a little make-out session. It plays into a number of negative stereotypes of the guy who saves the broken woman through sexual acts instead of, you know, actually talking to her and letting her work through the issue. When I've been upset like that, the last thing I want is sexIn saying this stuff, I'm not saying that anyone ( ... )

As an side-thought- I would have no problem with how it was handled if they'd split it up a bit better. Keep the moment when Jack is upset and questioning things, and Shep is there to talk to her. Then, later Jack comes back to him for the fun times. Then, it's her decision, taken with a clear head, to sleep with someone for positive reasons.

Pretty much. They could have gone two ways with her character development, I think. Either they go the change her through the power of love route (like they've done in the game) or they keep her unbalanced. Let her own up to her crazy. I don't want every female character to turn into little Talis that just want Shepard to hug them, you know?

I kinda hoped that Jack was going to be a character who was just unapologetically crazy. Kind of in the same way that Samara is just the way she is. You help her with her loyalty mission and she finally finds some closure, but that doesn't mean that she'll suddenly open her legs for you. She's still who she is.

But eh. I dunno what I'm trying to say anymore.

This. Legitimate criticism =/= bashing.
