It's Time

Nov 09, 2014 10:35

Heya folks,

This is probably overdue... but it's time I hand over the reigns of moderatorship to someone(s) else.

It's been a great many years. There have been trying times to be sure, but above all I maintain an abiding love and pride in the community here. It's been a safe and warm place for many. Despite the fact the bulk of capital-F fandom has moved, I still frequently find myself wishing it would return.

Mentally, I've been moving away from Mass Effect myself. I'll always love it, whatever its faults. That much is sure. But since finishing my fic, my brain has been craving different inputs. I think it's one of those things where time and a little distance will only do me some good, and in some ways make the whole experience all that more special to me. Participating in fandom, both as a mod and as a fan/writer/artist, has been a singular experience, and something I'll always carry with me. The community here has been an enormous part of that.

I have no formal system in mind for this... I'll take volunteers and nominations, and we'll talk about it. The system supports several mods, so a team is perfectly feasible. I could remain part of the mod staff according to the website, and could thus pinch-hit when needed. I'm not leaving LJ. But I think the community would be better served by a lead mod who isn't properly engaged. I have the stash of SLF banners I can pass on, too.

My only request is that anyone who takes over do their best to maintain the community's central premise: that it remain a safe place for fans. Discussion and debate without personal attacks and flaming. (And really, the community does most of the work itself, because you're all awesome. ;)
