Any tips on how to be an effective Engineer for a brand-new MP player?

I've found that it really depends on the class.

For example, my volus engineer is all support. He stays out of the way of close up battles whenever possible. But my geth engineer and the N7 Demolisher are real powerhouses when leveled up. The only class I ever attempted gold on was with my geth engineer.

My advice for a low level engineer is to put at least one point into whatever special ability to have and the other in fitness. You'll need the health and shields. Engineers thrive on their powers so pick a light weapon so you can get all the recharge points.

I would be tempted to call volii (hehe) a class unto themselves, they're really atypical in all of their class types.

Thanks for all the Paladin advice last week, since tweaking the build to the recommendations and figuring out cryo-splosions, he's a total blast to play and held his own quite handily on Gold with some quarians! Extended range Snap Freeze through walls is the bomb, and it's so nice to be able to slow down the faster mobs.

(And because the RNG is a jerk like that, I got Paladins literally three Reserves packs in a row. Well, he has his proper N7 stripe now.)
