I've been rolling this around in my head since exams finished and I wanted to throw it up here just to see how many people might be interested!
So like, who doesn't make up stories in their head for all the characters they play in multiplayer. (That said: who doesn't actually play multiplayer, and does it anyway? Come on, guys.) And based on the general interest I've seen here in the comm, people kind of like roleplaying a little bit.
So. Mercenaries and soldiers and everyday civilians with weaponry, coming together to SAVE THE GALAXY. Meanwhile, you down another vodka cooler and attempt to mimic a krogan voice into your headset, much to the amusement/slight displeasure of your teammates. How do three humans and a salarian end up fighting a galactic war together? How awesome are a trio of asari maidens who've stolen some guns and gone off to war? What happens when a quarian and a krogan are the last survivors of their squad, battling off wave upon wave of Cerberus forces?
And when do they fuck?
The intention of this roleplay is to figure out the hows and whys of a galactic, cross-civilization war. (Why did character X end up fighting alongside character Y, and what are they fighting for?) It's also meant to give roleplayers a chance to flesh out their multiplayer characters and provide them with war buddies. The story would be played out partially in a Livejournal comm, and partially in multiplayer maps themselves.
Tentative highlights:
- We are not excluding anyone who does not actually play multiplayer. Come in, make up a character, rock your socks off. There will be a multiplayer component to the roleplay, but it is completely, totally, 100% optional and will exist on a come-as-you-like basis.
- You do not have to be good at multiplayer to join. You are allowed to state, quite freely, that you have only ever played multiplayer once, while drunk in a friend's basement. No one will judge you. We're here to be awesome, not necessarily kick a ton of ass. (Also, your adorable character definitely needs someone big and strong to protect them.)
- Everyone will be allowed to exchange multiplayer contact information (such as your console and username), and will be totally encouraged to set up their own shindigs and report back in once the dust has settled. We'll have a system called Battle Logs which can be used to report what happened later to the rest of the group (ie. character A was seriously wounded so character B had to give them mouth-to-mouth! IT WAS INTENSE).
- Once every so often, we'll have our own organized mini-missions. Some will just be for shits and giggles; other times you'll be allowed to set up a specific team and fight for a goal. For some of these missions, there may or may not be prizes involved. We have no idea what the prizes will be.
- Obviously everyone has more characters in multiplayer than they might actually be willing to roleplay on a consistent basis. For those less-loved characters, there will be a separate profile that you can post up so people can see what other options you've got, especially if you're just looking for a non-roleplay-centric multiplayer round. Characters can also be shifted around as you please.
