The Fourth Estate (Fact Check/Lore Discussion/Research/Resources)
"They didn't cover this in basic."

Having problems adding meaty elements to your fanwork? Need to discuss the intricacies of krogan courtship to scare the crap out of (or turn on) your muse? Can't remember a specific tidbit from one of the games and you just have to have it? Cast of characters giving you fits?

Got writing resources you'd like to share? Need verb conjugation help? Problems with characterization? Do you have helpful tips on a character's voice or motivation? Do you need crafting supplies and can't find a good supplier? Got an e-bay supplier that sells the most fantastic mohair for your kitbashes?

Post quick fact checks/lore discussion/research links/requests in this thread only!

Nitpickers, have at it!

Drell/Hanar Culture

Need some insight on what Irikah Krios' funeral was like, please =). I remember something about her body being put in the ocean...? Not sure if that's how it went, though.

Thank you =). Kinda messes up my head-canon of the hanar having underwater cities, though lol. I can't really see them letting bodies rot in an ocean they live in.

Well considering that it's an ocean, there are probably sharks or other predators - though it's a good guess that the have technological ways to keep them out. Maybe there's a spot of ocean reserved soley as a burial site?

At the same though, fish and other animals defecate in the ocean so I can't really see that adding a dead body is that terrible.

It does bring up a good question on what they would consider "pollution". Also, if they have underwater cities, if they explore the nearby coral (or coral-analog) reef, is it considered 'camping' if they sleep there?

There should be more canon exploration of the hanar. The possibilities are just too cool.

They can have underwater cities too. Maybe amphibious cities - half in the water, half on land or above the water level. I think they breathe regular air, right? They can only go so deep before the ocean's pressure will kill them. We bury, preserve or cremate our dead but that's a human thing. The weights would take the bodies past the livable space or like rose_in_shadow suggested, maybe there's a designated area.

There might be a big kerfluffle if the weights aren't done properly and the bodies come back as floaters - like what happens when a flood takes out a cemetery that hasn't been kept up properly (there was a kerfluffle in Alabama after Hurricane Ivan, but I'm not sure if it made national news).

You guys have a point =). I find burying bodies to be a pretty gross/unsanitary way of dealing with them, so the thought of underwater burials with underwater cities icked me out.

I can just imagine the uproar by the hanar if the bodies came back a floaters, ha.

They could drop them in oceanic trenches, or in places that were designated for burial. They may depend on predators to dispose of their dead (look up sky burial for the earth version). It could definitely still work.

In Huerta Memorial, there's a soldier at the very back of the hospital who is lying in a bed, talking to an asari. I remember that he has to have an amputation - I can't remember if it was a leg or an arm, but the thing I'm interested in, if I'm remembering it correctly is that the asari talks about cloning the missing appendage as the ambient progresses? I am crazy, or was this a thing?

I'm just curious, because a lot of after-ME3 fics/drabbles are making mention of prosthetics, and I'm trying to sort it out in my head. I imagine you'd have to wait a while for the cloned appendage to be...grown, and then there's the issue of how on earth would you reattach nerves and muscle if it's a healed amputation at that point...and gah. But, yes, so I can't find the video, but I am remembering the cloned part correctly or just completely making it up?

That sounds right. Unfortunately I can't find anything online about it, either. She definitely mentioned that whatever the preferable alternate process is would take way too long and that a prosthetic is the most viable option at the moment.

I think you're right about the cloning. At the very least, she talks about growing the limb (possibly some other way than cloning).
