My copy of the
Art of Mass Effect Universe arrived today!
There have been
scans floating around the internet, but there's nothing like holding it in your hands!
It's a nice hardcover book, and the binding is good. High quality semi gloss pages on nice paper stock, and the print is really, really good!
The book is broken up into 3 sections: ME1, ME2 and ME3. They're all roughly the same size, but the ME2 section is a little bit bigger than the other two.
There's a lot of concepts for all the major races and squadmates, and its fun seeing what could've been with the art.
I don't have the other art book,
Art of Mass Effect, so I can't compare the two in terms of content, but there seems to be some overlap between the two from scans I've seen from that book.
If you're a fan of locations and world building, this is a good reference. Lots of nice concepts for vehicles (the Mako gets its own page!), weapons and clothing!
The ME3 section is FULL OF SPOILERS. I'd avoid it if you don't want to see final boss concepts, unannounced characters, etc.
The one thing I hate is that there's little concepts/images for Joker and FemShep. FemShep only has 5 images in the entire book (the Pat O concept of the new default, the Stock Image of the new default, and 3 little concepts for ME1). She doesn't even get her own page! I guess it shows how little effort they put into her design. Joker gets 4 head concepts. In contrast, that kid you see in the demo? He gets an ENTIRE PAGE with about a dozen concepts in it.
All in all, its worth picking up if you're a fan of art books or concept art, or just want something that's a visual reference for making creative stuff in the ME verse.
