We actually had a huge post when it initally leaked back in November, and mods have asked that any information regarding the demo and any other leaks from it be contained in the Leakgate Spoilerama Quarantine post.

And real quick as to Kaidan: the Major Alenko Anderson calls for is Kaidan. We know Kaidan was a Staff Commander in ME2, but it's believed that he's been promoted again to keep him roughly on par with Ashley's promotion from Staff Lieutenant in ME2 to Lieutenant Commander in ME3.

Since this isn't part of the Leakgate text (as in, the full game script) itself, is now only a few months from release, and most importantly only covers the game's intro, I think we can let this pass. Also, the OP put it under plentiful spoiler warnings. No one should be taken by surprise on this.

In the past, we've always allowed this kind of thing with the right warnings. The reason we took action on Leakgate was it covered the entire game.

Ah. My fault. I thought everything that came from that was "under quarantine". Sorry! And as to the spoiler warnings: I'm good. I eat spoilers up like candy.

No worries. Leakgate was an unusual case... too much too early, you know? Normally I'm all over spoilers too, but it was too much even for me. I don't want to know everything that'll happen months in advance. But an intro like this is fine IMO. It's just the first few minutes, so it won't ruin the entire game for anyone. And, it's easily skipped for those that want to skip it. My major concern with Leakgate was that spoilerphobes would get info they didn't want dropped into random chatter in places like SLF. A clearly marked spoiler post is usually better protected.

I won't lie: under normal circumstances I would agree with you. But for me, after the disappointment (for me) of DA2 and the way they've been treating Kaidan/Kaidanmancers? GIMME. I want it all. I want to know how that subplot ends and if I've got Kaidan back or if I've been handed Ashdan Willenko again. I want to know if they've done him and his fans justice. And honestly, those were the main parts of the spoilers I read. XD

I figured, we're only two months from release, I put in warnings, I thought I'd be okay (thankfully, the mod agreed, yay!), so I'm glad I didn't have to delete the post!

Ah, so Kaidan/Ashley are now two ranks higher than Shepard! I bet Shepard is really chapped about that! I wonder if Anderson promotes Shepard in the field to at least Captain, or it's going to look funny on the ship. On the other hand, I think she/he might find it rather humorous.

In the future, if you're unsure about a situation like this please take the time to message one of us before posting. We much prefer that to the after-the-fact "if this isn't allowed, remove it!" approach. We're generally able to reply fairly quickly.

I got it! Will do.

Er, no. Kaidan is, but Ashley is the same rank as Shepard (Lieutenant Commander), and I imagine each Shepard feels differently about it. My canon Shepard (a faithful Kaidanmancer), for example, is damn proud of Kaidan and thinks it's far past time that the Alliance recognize Kaidan's potential.

Anderson probably won't, but it won't cause issues. Shepard is still a Spectre, and the Normandy is still Shepard's ship. As such, Kaidan wouldn't really have much sway, especially if he willingly cedes seniority for the sake of the integrity of the mission (which is probably what will happen, and what will actually aggravate my canon Shep). Ashley's rank won't really be an issue since they're of equal rank (and see also: ceding seniority for the sake of the mission).

I suppose it depends on who's in the crew of the new Alliance Normandy SR-2 - if they're mostly Alliance soldiers who never served under Shepard, or who're only familiar with his/her reputation, then I think they'd be uncomfortable with it (of course, they're soldiers, so they'll put up and shut up). I think they'd much rather have someone familiar and reliable in command, who never allied with terrorists, however forced it was.

If there are former Cerberus crew, then they'd be more loyal to Shepard (or are they? dun dun DUN) because she/he was the one who saved their asses from being turned into Collector soylent green).

I don't quite understand Ashley's promotion - she's an NCO, isn't she? So she's an officer now? I'm not familiar with how the military works, much less the military in a fiction setting.

I can answer your questions about the crew if you really want, but then we're headed into full-fledged honest-to-your-deity-of-choice spoiler territory, so I won't just put it out there.

As to Ashley: She was an NCO in ME1. By the time ME2 rolled around, she'd been made an officer (for a list of ranks specific to the Systems Alliance, this wiki entry is really helpful). It is possible to go from NCO to officer, but it's time and school intensive (it involves a process called OCS - Officer Candidacy School, at least in the National Guard. I believe that OCS is present in all branches of military and that to go from NCO to officer in the Navy is referred to as "mustanging" and that officers who do such are called "mustangs"). Ashley, according to the information we have, would have completed OCS and been promoted three ranks in the two years Shepard was dead. Difficult, unlikely, but not impossible. Especially not when taking into consideration that she probably caught promotions for helping save the Citadel and possible "back" ( ... )

Ah, that makes sense - I forgot about OCS. I guess I figured High Command would be too rigid to allow it, or maybe I just see Ashley not doing it voluntarily, if that makes sense. I don't see her as the type to voluntarily attract attention to herself, and not as the type to angle for promotions. Not because she's timid, mind you, but because of being burned in the past.

I don't see anyone putting a powerful biotic like Kaidan behind a desk - he's much too useful in the front lines. And in war, I really don't think anyone can really count on being able to hide behind a desk, even if they are promoted 'out of the field'.

They can. And it's not by their choice. It's usually a top-down decision that has nothing to do with the officer in question.

No, I meant there's really no place safe in a galaxy where the Reapers have invaded, not because I disagree with you - just that, in the chaos of war, there is no rear guard, no place that's safe, not even Arcturus Station. Hell, the Reapers get the drop on Earth, and presumably humanity has got defenses out the wazoo for their own homeworld.
