Holy fuck. That was an intense movie. Incredibly intense movie. And it just shows how amazing Christian Bale as an actor, how truly brilliant he is and how he can so fully become a character. That movie honestly almost made me cry. Christian Bale is the only actor (or actress, for that matter) that can make me cry. I'm not a generally emotional person, I'm usually very level and don't get easily affected by emotional scenes in movies, etc. and I'm certainly not easily disturbed by violence or what people would call "disturbing." (For example, I'm obsessed with serial killers... And of course I love Patrick Bateman!) That movie really made me tear up, I almost cried. I've never cried at a movie or anything along those lines, I've come close, but I've never teared up like that, I've never had to actually consciously keep myself from crying. That is how amazing he truly is as an actor, he gets to your emotions, he truly acts. This is why I find him so appealing. He truly is an artist, and he really puts his all into it. It's fascinating to watch & witness. He truly is a mind-numbing actor and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. But I don't think he really cares about that sort of thing either, which is another reason why I find him so appealing. I highly recommend this film, just don't watch it when you are stressed out or depressed or something along those lines. Because you'll flip. I've also found that he enjoys playing the part of mentally unstable or flawed characters (Patrick Bateman, Trevor Reznik, Batman...) He falls into those characters with ease, but he also plays many different characters which is so awesome. Harsh Times is a very extreme movie, and is the perfect title for it. It is about, Jim Luther Davis, a former soldier who served in Afghanistan. His experience in Afghanistan left him severely mentally unstable, and you see how his sanity unravels throughout the film, ending in a harsh & unsettling climax (which I will not disclose here for those of you who wish to see this film =P). I loved it, for reasons unknown to me, that do not simply include Christian Bale's performance, even though as I have repeated throughout this entry was phenomenal. Now I am off to do more English work. Watch Harsh Times. Now.
