Movie
A Midsummer Night's Dream
It was good. Not as good as I would have hoped, but good. Then again what can you expect from a modern Shakespeare movie? Most actors/actresses cannot pull that off nowadays. Calista Flockhart certainly couldn't, as Hermia. She, in all honesty was the main weakness of the film, because her character proved to be rather central, which was disappointing. The rest of the actors did quite well, but Kevin Kline, Mr. Bale, Rupert Everett, Michelle Pfeiffer and Stanley Tucci did especially well. I really enjoyed the "fairy realm" as it were. So colorful, glittering and mystical. And oh so many British accents! That was enjoyable. As well as a nearly-naked Bale. Quite nice. All in all it was a cute little film, and helped me understand a lot more of the play, which I read before watching.
Books/Literature
Blood Canticle by Anne Rice
And so I have completed the Vampire Chronicles, and all vampire novels by Anne Rice. At first I was unsure as to whether it would end well, but it did. I will reread them all again at some point, but who knows when. It took me four years to finish the entire Chronicles, due to interruptions from school and etc. Overall, I love the books and characters. I could have dealt without Mona becoming a vampire, I have to admit, because she became rather obnoxious as a vampire fledgling. There was a point to it, I suppose, but that did not make her any less annoying. This one was more related to the Mayfair Witch books, but Lestat & most main characters were vampires. I do wish that there had been more Armand & Louis, or any of the vampires throughout the last few novels, but that is alright I suppose. As long as Lestat is there.
Running with Scissors: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs
This was a good. Much better than the movie, as I have been told, though the movie is decent. Very readable, I finished it within two days. It was easy to write precis about it, because it was just so enthralling. It was humorous, edgy and horrifying all at once. Very quirky, and I definitely recommend it.
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
Brilliant, as are all works by The Bard. I really enjoyed it, the poetry and prose was beautiful, but it was also quite humorous. Certain things I did not quite comprehend while reading, however were quickly smoothed over by watching the film. A good read, a good read for beginners in Shakespeare, because in comparison to say MacBeth, Hamlet or Romeo & Juliet it is quite easy, though Romeo & Juliet is a fairly easy read as well, at least in my opinion.
