just deserts

Nov 09, 2009 10:47

I brewed and drank about eight cups of coffee yesterday, and the last one was around nine o'clock in the evening.

Wired--just wired and stewing and writing until around half past two when I began crashing. I closed out of everything, shuffled my notebooks together and hauled myself to my room--where I decided, against my better judgment and good sense, that it wasn't actually time for bed. No, it was time to take a shower... So I didn't actually turn out the lights until half past three, when, as you know, everything looks quite bleak. And sleep didn't hit me quickly. The backs of my hands were chapped (I'd scalded them earlier), so I'd applied some creme from Burt's Bees--and I do think it helped in the long run, honestly--but it was stinging me. I think I drifted off imaging hornets were attacking my hands.

And then waking, feeling as though no time has passed. The light blazing through my window looked, quite frankly, hellish when the alarm finally dragged me out of unconsciousness at half past seven--an hour and half after it had begun. I rushed about, but still managed to pack a lunch (second week!), and make it to a train before eight o'clock.

Long and short of it, I'm a mess today, and deservedly so ... but still indulging in the hair of the caffeine beast that bit me. Because if I don't, Herr Migraine will rear his ugly head and jack-boot me in mine.

And, to quote one of my more honest superiors this morning, "if there weren't a holiday later this week, I don't think I'd be in today." Damn straight.

On a happier note, maybe mild sleep deprivation will punch up my prose.

Ooh. Also of the good, but with a slight preface: The days and nights are blending together, but I think it was Saturday night when I decided I needed to watch Le pacte des loups. And because I've been on a film score kick (my NaNoWriMo soundtrack of choice), I couldn't help noticing and newly appreciating the Brotherhood score. So I looked it up. Joseph LoDuca. No wonder I love it. Between Evil Dead and Herc & Xena, I've been a fan for many years. He's often criticised for lack of emotional subtlety, and it's not that I would particularly disagree with that assessment, it's more that I just don't care...

ANYWAY, I decided that I NEEDED to possess the raw film score, and so searched iTunes and Amazon to see if it could be downloaded directly. No. Such. Luck. Nothing on the torrent sites either. It's entirely out of print, and the only availability on Amazon was from secondary dealers. So I broke down and ordered a material CD yesterday. Shocking, I tell you. Well, shocking for me, at any rate. The last one I bought was Muse's The Resistance, and that was $10. This one was $20. Oh, well. At least the shipping was free.

And it's apparently already been shipped! Can't wait!
