I had such plans for this weekend. There was going to be laundry and dusting (haven't had a chance to do a proper spring clean in the bedroom since returning from my travels). There was going to be some video editing (trying to re-edit some old Xena music videos and have an urge to make a femslash trailer for Ruthless and Maven). There was even the thought of some gaming (either LEGO Pirates of The Caribbean on the wii or Lord of The Rings Online on the PC). Instead it appears that I am channeling Sheldon from 'The Big Bang Theory' because reformatting my PC and restructuring my documents folders suddenly seemed so much more appealing than anything else on offer!
When things in my life feel the most out of my control I always seem to turn towards my computer to find some order. Weird. I don't understand most of the things that it does, don't use half of the applications it has on offer, but double click on my documents and enter 'The World According to Masque'. I can name things so that they appear in the order I want them to, make sub-folders to keep everything where I think it should be and make little slate icons to poke out of the little folder to tell me what is inside, even though the title underneath actually tells me that anyway... it's my way.
So as I watch umpteenth episode of Bad Girls transfer to another hard drive (Voyager episodes had to be transferred over night there were so many), I'm trying to get to grips with the systems and operations of my new iMac. It's a whole different way of computing.
Thus far I have worked out that 'Finder' is somewhat like 'Michaela', in other words it contains the documents, pictures, music, video and downloads folders. I have also learnt that you never want to hit the 'FaceTime' icon without being fully prepared for the consequences because I never want to see that face so early on a Sunday morning. (Also, the close button is at the top left instead of the top right of the window, that throws me everytime!)
