Hurricane Katrina...that fucking whore...
I FINALLY heard from word that my family is OK. Everybody: mom, Sara, Nana, Kim & Mark, Pat, Uncle Jeff, and Niann are all alive and well. They rode out the storm at Niann's house in downtown Bay St Louis (3 miles from my former house). The storm surge was 22ft high and the winds were at 165mph. It was basically a tsunami with 165mph winds. I was on the cell with my mom when the surge came down the railroad tracks at 0930 Monday. That was the last time I heard her voice. At 1817 tonight (tuesday) I got an email from Cousin Dave in Canada.>>>"

I just got a phone call from your mom, and she asked me to e-mail you.
I hope you get this ASAP. Her call was very broken up. I would imagine without power her cell phone is about to give out too. Deb tried giving me your e-mail address but she broke up to badly and I didn't want her to waste power repeating anything. She did say that she walked for two hours to find an area that her phone would work.
All are safe, and well your house is gone complete. Fran and Pat's places are shifted off the footings, and they aren't sure about structural integrity. She didn't say anything about Kim's house, but again they are safe and well. Cindy's house lost half the roof but structure seems ok. Deb said you have flight tickets to come home next week but she won't be able to pick you up. Watching CNN and WLOX, I would guess most all air ports are disabled. If you do find a way of getting home on your own or through the corps, please be careful.

I am so excited that they all survived! Later that night, Ernie from The Good Life called Shani's cell to let me know my fam was OK as well. Mom had sent him out with Shani's # so he could call when he heard anything. Things are so bad that the red cross can't even get there yet. Only the Coast Guard can get in and out. No ariel footage in BSL/Waveland because it is restricted airspace...took the direct hit from the eye of the storm.
Damage report: OLG Catholic Church-almost completely gone, the enitre strip at olde town/main st Bat St Louis-gone, my house-completely gone, Nana & Aunt Pat's houses-shifted off footings, Aunt Cindy's house-lost 1/2 roof, everything from Bay Bridge to St Stanislaus-gone, everything from Nicholson ave to Coleman ave-gone, Ernie sai he thinks the Koskan house is gone as well, Everything from Bay Bridge around BWYC and Benvenutti's house area-gone, Southern YC in Kenner-flooded-out and burned to the ground.
The important thing is that the family is OK and everyhing else can be rebuilt. Thank God for this miracle for my family.
