(this is my main project for my film writing class...please comment with ideas/etc! thanks... -david)

The story begins in New York City. Sawyer Green and his fiancé, Gwen, are performing; Sawyer on the violin, Gwen on the piano. When Gwen departs to Mexico for in-depth research of a romantic town as the subject of a book she’s writing and fails to return, Sawyer expects the worst. Armed with a copy of Gwen’s notes and his precious violin, the talented young man decides talent and fame aren’t worth it if he can’t share it with his true love. Making the drastic move to Taxco, Mexico, he visits the Santa Prisca Church, the place mentioned on one of Gwen’s pages. Despondent, he learns that the setting of Gwen’s book would have been a chapel in the mountains. The solitude appeals to Sawyer, until an eager young woman, Roni Corcolan, who overhears the conversation, volunteers to help him. As they are forced to spend time together, fixing up the dilapidated mission, they learn from each other. Roni pressures Sawyer into using his talent for good and start a music school for the local children. Sawyer tells Roni she spends “too much time looking through the lens of her camera and not enough in reality”. They soon learn that friendship is even more important when the mountain under them is discovered to have rich veins of silver, much to the liking of Debra K. London (the owner of a jewelry company? Museum? Etc?) The Church withdraws their support, and Sawyer is left on his own, battling the merciless London and her local help, Marcus Orozco. With Victor and Delilah, a couple of friendly street vendors, thrown in, Sawyer discovers that a life of faith isn’t all it’s promised to be and he starts to question everything. Why is Roni so secretive about her past, especially her family? How is she connected to Marcus? Is the old chapel really worth the memories of Gwen? And is she really dead? After all, who is the pianist who hides behind a curtain, playing just one part of the mournful duet that made Sawyer and Gwen famous?
