The Realities of Children’s TV Shows

Random post time!

So, as the two of you that read this know, I have a small three year old child at home. He’s wonderful, and I couldn’t ask for a better kid. But, as a result of having my son, when the TV does get turned on, it tends to be turned onto kids shows. Specifically, my son as two shows he loves to watch, Bob the Builder and Thomas and Friends. For anyone else that has children, this is not a surprise to you. Even if you don’t have kids, I’m pretty sure everyone knows about these shows, so I’ll skip describing them.

So, while watching these shows with my son, I’ve noticed some things that I find highly amusing. For instance, the business in the Island of Sodor (from Thomas and Friends) loose an incredible amount of money, because each episode at least one train has an accident and loose the cargo they were hauling. And in most cases, they return to the business that provided the cargo and get more. That’s a whole train load of cargo that they lost and had to replace. Now, either the cost of living on Sodor is so high as to be unlivable, or these businesses just lose money. If I lived there, I would ship all my products by truck. I’m just saying.

Then, in Bob the Builder, there’s this weird time distortion thing that happens. No matter how big or how small the job is, Bob always manages to get it finished in one day. Need a house? No problem, Bob will build you one in one day. A whole house, two stories even! With electricity (we know because he put in a solar panel roof to power the house) and plumbing (again we know because we saw him put in a room for a toilet, though we never see the toilet). So, a complete, two story house, complete with electricity and plumbing, done in one day. One day. Wow. Same goes for roads. Need a new road? Bob will get you one in a day. Need some sign posts put up on that road? Also one day. Doesn’t matter how small the job is, still takes one day. It’s no wonder Bob is in such high demand, he has incredible turn around on projects!

So, some random rambling about kids shows, but this is how my mind works, folks. Enjoy.
