Phantom Leads Police on Low-Speed Chase Through Paris

PARIS, France (AFP) - Disguised as an ugly old woman, The Phantom of the Opera nearly eluded police who were waiting to take him into custody upon his return to French soil. Had it not been for the screaming crowd of women at the exit, The Opera Ghost might have made a clean getaway in the brougham waiting for him outside.
Broadcast live over television, The Phantom's brougham led police on a 3-hour chase through the streets of Paris, 2 hours of which were spent trying to exit out of the Place de l'Ètoile, with confirmation of the masked fugitive's presence verified when his accomplice phoned 112 stating, "This is Meg Giry. I've got O.G. in the back seat."
The low-speed chase eventually ended at the Place de l'Opera where The Phantom surrendered himself to police without incident.
