More than I dreamt of

You know, I just wanted to share a little anecdote with y'all.

There's a young woman that I've known for a few years now. I'm not sure exactly how long, because she's in the Wellington gaming circuit, and basically the first time you meet someone is probably the 10th time, and you can not usually pinpoint when that was anyway, but a long-ish time certainly.

Well, as is my basic modus operandi, I wasn't as good a person as you might hope for. I wasn't ever cruel, but I guess I've been described accurately as a "prat" by one other perceptive individual. And when last I saw her, it was very much in the aftermath of me being, well, unfortunate. She'd passed from my immediate frame on uncertain but I felt probably quite negative terms, the details of which escape me now.

It just so happens that recently, after what felt like a long break, I saw her again. She beamed a huge smile at me, threw her arms around me and said "Mash, it's been ages, how the hell are you" or words to that effect. And I felt instantly better; it was one of those moments which I'd always thought were a narrative device: a metaphoric weight I'd been unconscious of lifted off my shoulders. Probably even moreso, I felt like a super-villain who's just been shown the true power of love for the first time, and my heart grew 10 times its size in that minute. In that moment, the world was a bigger and a brighter place than I'd thought.

It was an experience I wanted to share, and to remember. Because I was taken completely by surprise, in the best way possible. A remarkable act, from what I actually now more fully recognise is a remarkable person.
